It's a given that HFV members are much better informed on the topic of audio-video equipment than the average consumer, and so I thought it would be a good idea to see which brand of TV is the most popular here and why.

So vote on which of the brands you chose and post your reasons for doing so.

Note: This is not about merits/demerits of individual models, Plasma vs LCD vs LED or HD-ready vs Full HD, here the focus is just on Overall Brand Perception.

There does not seem to be a NONE option in the poll!
Why is it assumed that everyone owns a television?
Perhaps some folks don't like the '100 channels churning out drudgery and boredom syndrome' and therefore blissfully and happily live in a home free from the idiot box?:)

1) LG -42 Inch FHD LCD...1.5 Years back ...was planning a 720 P plasma or 720P LCD as budget was low....and from only Samsung,LG,Panasonic ( & Sony :)) Plasma did not pick as my hall was full lit and this was mostly for my family.
Now kohinoor from vashi offered a fanatstic price on my model also was ready to pick up a 25 inch CRT from my mothers place in Goregaon ( I stay In Vashi Mom at Goregaon ,I swapped 25 Inch Dying TCL CRT in exchange ,Kohoor picked up from goregaon ...very few dealers were ready for it!)
Value and convenience was very high in this deal and still I think it was best deal...Picture may not best but got what I've paid for. Thanks LG and Kohinoor

2) AOC -22 Inch V 22T , Second TV and COMPUTER MONITOR, Now monitor fun was important for me as I have 2 small laptops ( 12 Inch and 9 Inches) Also TV source was analogue cable ,not STB.And was looking for HDMI and Componant input so that I can use my WDTV
Only 2 brands was available LG and AOC. AOC reviews were good and also LG had some -ve review. Unfortunately Benq was cut as it does not have analogue tuner. On Lamigton road got price of 11450 which i feel very good as Videocon 22 Inch Tv is for 10 K ..

3) Have another 9-10 Inch Chinese LCD TV..Got from my friend and not using it!

4) Had philips 29 Inch CRT ,,now at mothers place ..5 yrs old ...got a good price whn I bought, required repairing once. Decent performer and

5) Bro bought a 22 INch Videcon LCD for my parents , Vijay sales was offering 12 K WITH KODACK DIGICAM FREE, also got 1k for my old dying Aiwa 14 Inch CRT ,so effective was 11 K.
Parents are not bothered wih videophile qualities so videocon is just ok.

You make a good point Ajay, but then, what would a person who does not own a TV, doesn't like TV, thinks it's drudgery and boredom, be doing in the 'idiot box' section of a website dedicated to video & audio equipment?:D

You can own a TV even if you dont like '100 channels .... etc etc".

Mine is connected only to my DVDp and the Xtreamer. No sign of a cable / DTH anywhere in the room.:)

This ensures that no one can disturb my watching hours by saying " I have to watch *** program exactly at **** time !!!

That makes me wonder : am I entitled to claim that I own a TV but not an idiot box ?????

Incidentally I do own a Sony! But its lying blissfully silent, dead and boxed, ever since I chopped the Tata Sky cable snaking into my house into several tiny pieces and banished it into the outer nothingness.
On second thought I have nothing against the Sony or Tata Sky!Both provided excellent service. Its those folks all over the world manufacturing the odious and dumb content that I don't like.
I also don't like watching films on a TV/LCD/Plasma.Prefer the big screen.
But I apologize for having intruded into the poll.So I will make an exit and let the folks who like television carry on with their business.

I think the 'Idiocy Quotient' of a TV comes not from the perceived banality of the content you watch on it, but from the fact that you can spend hours in front of a screen which offers at best a fake version of reality, instead of doing something more 'productive' with your time!

Hi Ranojoy,

Even my JVC is connected only to my Pio 610..no cable TV.. so that makes two of us... :)

And you are definitely entitled to the claim bro..what's wrong in having no cable?

Dont know much about CRTs but when it comes to LCD, Samsung manufactures some of the best of TV sets. Both Sony and Samsung use panels from the same factory but Sony is tad too expensive. So Samsung offers best VFM.

Mine is a 6 yrs old Panasonic 29 inches TV, still performing like a brand new set, with brilliant realistic colour output.

Sony W32400A purchased 3 years back paid 3 LCDs money for one TV comparing todays prices ... But no regrets the TV rocks .......... :yahoo:

What if I own 2 TVs? I have 1 Sony 25 inch CRT & 1 Samsung 32 inch LCD.

Well, in that case you can vote for the brand you use as your primary TV :). I did not opt for a multiple choice poll as I think most of us have owned 6-7 TV's over our lifetimes and then the poll results would have gone haywire.

Just Now as I told have 2 main LCDs and 1 small One.
Also if I take my family,Ma,pa and Bro we have 6 -7 Tv;s in total

If you have multiple TV's, please do post the pros and cons of all the brands you own, just like Hemant, and vote for the one you use/prefer the most.

I use lg 32" lcd tv , which is about 2.5 years old and at that time it was the best VFM model. and i use onkyo 5.1 home theater which is almost 5 years old working fine till now, and paid about 32k. and a sony dvd with hdmi. all are working fine.

Sony 32W400 at Kerala. Got it from Singapore at 45K when it was costing appox 60K here. My paa's friend did not charge us a penny extra for that purchase. Sony LCDs were the craze couple of years back and looking at the performance (till today!) I know why. Absoulte stunner.

Samsung 37A550 for my Bandra living room. My first foray in to LCD for self use. Wanted to purchase a VFM and Samsung fit the bill. The Sonys were inviting but priced really high - not worth the spending.

LG 50PK550 for my Mahim home as I wanted a bigger TV and experiment with Plasma.

Next year not sure, but if there's a great Panasonic launched that beats the mighty Kuro I might just be game for it:) God willing, Insha'Allah!

Different brands purely for different reasons.

Sony - Trinitron - 29" and Vega - 25" - both CRT & about 9+ yrs old and running great....absolutely no complains . touchwood :licklips:. I was always in favour of Sony back then and hence the CRTs...but not any longer for the LCDs as there are better VFMs in the market today.

I am out on project work now and would be picking up the Pana 42" x20 once I am back. Did compare it with the rest 42" and felt Pana to be the best..cant wait to get back.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
