I just did this with my 500gb songs , though no multiple sub folders.
And it's was freaking fast , I am using openmediavault to hold my all songs on raspberry Pi connected to simple hdd.

One quick question
Do you recommend any particular hdd which will have be more durable and reliable in longer term ? thanks

This is good information, thank you. Mine is 1.5 TB and I know some who have 2 TB+. Will give it a go. Regarding the hard drive, go for the ones with longer warranty and note nothing beats backup. So redundancy us essential. I use Seagate/WD/ Hitachi/Toshiba all

Recently I have got wiim pro (pre owned, sold by an adorable forum member). Often times I thought of purchasing a streamer which I might add to my chain(marantz pm 6005 to feed wharefedal diamond speakers). I did not want to spend much so I never tried to search for some big names. I am basically a vinyl lover so I think streamers wouldn't be my cup of tea. Neither am I a tech savvy guy so adding a streamer and then tweaking would have been an ordeal to me. However, bluetooth speakers happened to be the only route to stream music for me. Fortunately, this year prior to Durgapuja i saw an advertisement in our classified section . Then I began to read about wiim pro and bought it . While setting it up i got help from @amrutmhatre 90 , even the guy selling the unit came into my rescue. After having set it up , i began to play the local files and I was elated. It is really a nice thing to have. It is an affordable , easy to set up and plug and play unit which is meant for the non tech savvy persons like me. I am happy with the unit and the wiim app which has almost all the features . As of now i have connected it to my amp via an RCA but I have heard people saying that the optical and coaxial routes would be better. I will try both the routes later though I do not think that the DAC of wiim is inferior. Adding a powerbank or an LPSU to power wiim pro is another thing to do in future. Till date i have played my local files stored on my android mobile , switched on bluetooth and have played spotify(un subscribed) , YT . Though the bluetooth in wiim is a basic one , i like it. But integration is better than casting. Therefore, my priority would be the wifi and playing local files, spotify(premium) to get better SQ. However, would be glad if YT can be integrated into wiim home app in future.
