Will an Atmos even make sense ?

I have setup atmos in my 12x8 room and it gave me fantastic outcome. Atmos is not about height channels alone, but the ability to precisely recreate sound from any point in the room irrespective of the size. If you can, go for atmos. However I have moved back to 7.1 setup recently due to lack of atmos content available. Most of the time I use streaming services for movies and they come in 5.1 channels only. Will definitely go back to atmos setup, once streaming services start the same.
I am also having SVS pb1000 in my room, and its blending well with the theater. Sub will definitely improve the sound stage, and you have the provision to adjust sound based on your room and setup. Go for it man...

Hi all,

I am trying to setup a simple HT...I am not a big movie junkie and probably see 2-3 movies per month (that too in Amazon / Netflix ) . However I aim to improve these figures by getting a dedicated / half decent HT .

I got the 1608 from Marantz over a 1508 since the price differential was not too much for those two extra channels . My issue is my room size . It is just 12 x 10.5 . Will it make any sense to invest in an atmos setup for this kinda of space or better stick to standard 5 speakers .

I don’t even have the sub since I am not sure if the room could take in so much speakers !! With all my existing speakers being ported, it needs some space behind them intruding into the useable view area for me. If you just leave out 1.5 ft on all four sides then the actual room size stands further reduced !

I understood some high level info about atmos .so I got the point that it is not just about more speakers. Let me know your suggestions on if it makes sense to add atmos speakers . And my ceiling is normal one (not smooth gypsum board one )

It definitely makes sense,if u r interested in sound and special effects. With ur Room size ,a 5.1.2 setup will do a very good job.
U can add the height speakers later also ,if u have any budget constraints.Based on my experience ,the Top Middle- ceiling mounting offered a best effects in 5.1.2. U may need to stick to the Atmos guidelines to mount this i.e, 65degree to 100 degree from your main listening position.
In case,if you find difficult to mount it on ceiling ,then mounting on sidewalls high enough with speaker tilted downwards ,may also do the job.
A sub adds a good experience to the movie watching. But proper placement of sub is a challenge.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
