I am confused please help. Cant compromise on Sony's double bass and have read rave reviews about Yamaha YHT 299. Getting Sony piece in 52K and Yamaha in 35K. My living room 27X20.

My vote to Yamaha

If need ONLY Bass go for sony. (passive Sub too)

with budget of 52K GO SEPERATE
AVR + Floorstanders + BS + Centre - add sub later

Finally went for Yamaha YHT-299. Luckily got it at Reliance Digital Pacific Mall Anand Vihar Delhi. Must admit its really difficult to get this model now. The deal was struck at 34200/- New Packed piece. The demo & installation scheduled for tomorrow! Hard to keep further patience and keeping my fingers crossed as to whether made the right choice or not! :-)

Congrats mate. Welcome to YHT 299 club. I am sure you will like it.

Thanks,
Sandeep.

Thanks Sandeep! Proud to join YHT 299 club. Had a demo yesterday by the installation guy. Preferred not to get installed by him. Shall install myself. In the first instance itself, just loved the system. Active sub-woofer Bass is awesome. FM Voice clarity is no less than any other system. Music/Movie modes are carefully customised. Just Awesome!

Can anyone please suggest from where to purchase tilting Speaker mounts for satellite speakers in Delhi. Please help..Thanks in advance..

Hi Prajan,

Good to know that you are liking the system. Can you share the speaker settings that the installation has setup in AVR.

Thanks,
Sandeep.

Hello friends,

Sorry If this is not the right place to post this question.

I am planning to buy YHT 299 or 2910 from an ebay india seller from delhi. But in some other thread I read a warning that Yamaha may not support if he is not an authorised dealer. Is this true? He is saying he will provide Original bill with 1 year manufacturer warranty.

I am trying to contact Yamaha India Support for this query but I don't know where to contact. The contact number given on their site is continuously busy.

Can someone provide more info on this? Any local support numbers? May be the number of the Installation guys of Yamaha?

BTW. You guys really doing great by providing very useful info about your systems.

Hello friends,

Well if Yamaha has published a written statement that they will not provide support if not purchased from an authorized dealer then you are taking a risk no matter what the Ebay seller tells you. Don't even bother with Ebay's guarantee, they will just give you the runaround mostly. Google and the Ebay forums are your friends.

If you go with the Ebay purchase you just have to trust the Ebay seller's claim regarding warranty. What happens if after you have thrown your money at Ebay and find that Yamaha will not support you, say for installation or any other problem during the warranty period. You will be left running between Yamaha, the Ebay seller, Ebay and perhaps even the consumer court if you want to take it that far. The Ebay seller may suddenly disappear from Ebay after a while. It's just an id and Ebay will no longer help you once your purchase vanishes from your history which I think is about 90 days or so. On the other hand you might just be lucky with your Ebay purchase and won't have to claim the manufacturer warranty ever.

Try getting the Ebay seller to prove in writing that he is an authorized seller which you can verify from the list of stores Yamaha has published as authorized dealers on their website. If he is not on that list, he can well provide you an "original" bill but according to Yamaha is not authorized to offer a Yamaha warranty.

@jsmithe, thanks for the info. I think you are right, for saving some bucks I should not take risk.

Hi I finally managed get one piece after 4 months of struggle. Picked one from Digital Express Noida.... Got a sealed box for 32853.... Good deal I guess.... Happy to own one...

@pranjandas ... i am planning to buy sony muteki 5.2 1950 watt system.
i have just auditioned sony . if u have heard sony , can u please compare the sound and the bass of both the products and let me know. (UNBIASED) :P:D

Sony has any time more bass, much more for a typical home environment. You may not be able to use max bass power in a home, at least I would not have been to, having a small kid at home. May be sometimes you will feel its useless to spend 16-17k more for this much AMOUNT of bass. Its surround suffers a lot. Only Bass is the catch here! Other deterrent is size of this HTIB. There are 2 Subs, 2 Floor standers, two other small speakers, if I am not wrong besides an AVR. Setting them up was a bit difficult for me. Besides, difficult to carry along as I am in a transferable job.

As for Yamaha 299, went solely by the reviews here. Trusted people blindly. Now after using it for a while, I feel I made the right choice (and people didnt betray me:lol:) with Yamaha as it is better compared to overall performance in terms of Bass, Center & surround sound. Moreover, 4K passthrough, TrueHD, Active Sub etc are other catchy things. Besides, you can anytime upgrade your sound by adding/changing speakers later on.

Its better though U may audition both may be side by side and take a considerate decision:)

Hey Pranjan did u get the End of line discount on YHT 299 ? Sales guy at Anand vihar told me. One more thing is it okay to purchase a product that is kept for demo ?

I think in 34200/- I got the rock bottom price. :yahoo: You enquired at RD Express Pacific Mall outlet? Mine was not a demo piece, it was sealed pack. I would not opt for a demo piece, come what may, may be a personal choice.

Ya i made a visit there today, told them that i was your friend :P haha, sadly they didnt have the model however they told me reliance digital noida has one but its a demo piece.
The sales guy told me newly pack 299 will cost you 36k but i told him that my friend (i.e you :P haha) purchased it for 34,200 from here.

Haha...good. so I have got a new friend in you...great!! Take it from me Reliance Digital does NOT have 299. They have 196 demo piece. Its RD Noida who referred me to Pacific Mall for 299 adding RD Express Pacific has only one packed piece of 299. I have been many a times to RD Noida, they have dedicated set up for audition of various HTs including Sony Muteki. In my opinion, instead of settling for 196, alternatively you can audition BS+Marantz set up there and make up ur mind. I struck a deal for 52k for sony muteki (1950RMS, M55 Model) but finally went for Yamaha 299 at Pacific Mall.

Sony Muteki is loud but it may not be the best in terms of finesse and clarity. Movie is more than just bang bang. You need to be able to sit through a 2 hour movie without ear fatigue - you would get a headache with bang bang. Also it is a myth that the Muteki is able to produce more bass. Can it go low? Can it hit you hard or is it more of a boomy bass? Can you feel the bass or can you just hear what you'd call bass?
On the other hand, if you need big party sound, if you want to bring the house down with hall filling sound then the Muteki might be the better choice. Yamaha 299's speakers would not be able to produce hall filling sound of huge scale. For pure sonic clarity and dialogue clarity at low volumes etc, i'd choose the Yamaha. Hope that helps

Hello! I just came from Shipra they dont have Yamha YHT 299, the sales guy got confused with YHT 196...

Anyways they had Boston Acoustics but it wasnt connected with any avr so couldnt audition it, they sold marantz avr separately so no more combo offer there.

For Muteki i have auditioned it, liked the bass but the speakers are so huge and its available on Snapdeal for 42k so no point buying it from there.

I think i will have to order BA xs + avr combo from hifimart only.

Hi asain, please check watt of the sony muteki on Snapdeal, it might be 1550RMS instead of 1950 latest one which has bluetooth and video playability besides NFC. Dont fall in the trap of Sony Muteki, there are at least 2 current models 1550, 1950RMS and one archieved model 1250RMS in the market.

BA+ Marantz could be a nice substitute for YHT299. Agreed hard to get, but you can get it online or alternatively if some friends staying in other cities like Mumbai Bangalore etc you can enquire about its availability there..
