Yamaha yht299 Home theater vs Sony n7100w Home theater

I am planning to buy a 5.1 home theater for mid sized room mainly for movies, i am confused between Yamaha yht299 Home theater vs Sony n7100w Home theater, Both cost almost same. Sony has passive subwoofer as compred to yamaha but the reviews on amazon.com for sony n7100w are almost 5 star and people say bass is very strong and sound is also very loud. On other hand, Yamaha has got active subwoofer and has dedicated av receiver. Can someone tell which one is the best?

yamaha is any day better mate.

I myself got Sony n7200w (latest model) which was bought for 40k. it was not bad but still lacks something in it. my father purchased it as they don't know, when i was not in india.

you know what happened?

After a month i sold it in quikr for 26k ..

14k loss in a month.

Now, i bought yamaha rx v375 and a pair of pioneer AJ Floorstanding speakers for 45k. the sound comparision was like day and night.

i'm very happy now for the output..

drnishant123 - I would prefer to buy YHT-299 rather than buying Sony HT for this budget. I personally have a Sony HTiB (am not sure about the model# it was close to 18k 2 years back) its worth for the money, but you cannot compare with Sony HTiB and Yamaha YHT-299. You can easily find difference in audio quality and the features its packed with.

You can always have a demo on both of these models, Take some of your fav audio & video discs, experience it and select which one you like . Am not sure whether you will be able to get YHT-299, most of the cities its out of stock.

I too have a YHT 299 and would definitely recommend it over Sony. Hope you have demoed all the options that you thought were good (including YHT 299 and Sony 7100) prior to deciding on which one to buy.

Many members have recently reported that they are unable to find YHT299 as its out of stock, and YHT 2910 is now selling for 42K (higher model). If you find YHT 299, grab it before someone else does

Decision is easy - Yamaha yht 299 is much better. But the bigger problem is to find a piece to buy - it is not available anywhere ,,,,,,,,,,,

I finally decided to go with yamaha yht 299, it is available in my city for rs 37500/- thanks everyone for letting me decide.

One last doubt does spending extra on yamaha yht 2910 makes sense as it has Dolby digital surround, Dolby digital and virtual cinema front like extra features.

Dolby digital was already there in yamaha yht 299. and virtual cinema is nothing but keeping all the speaker in front and still u get the surround effect. (same feature was there in sony as well, just a gimmick, nobody use)

When yamaha can decode DTS-HD master Audio(loss-less bluray format). do u thing Dolby digital (the basic lossy 5.1 dvd audio) won't decode?. it will mate, and our forum members also confirmed it.

It's easily available at yamaha dealer in chandigarh ,he said he has 4 pieces of yamaha yht 299
