Your take on Asustor AS-202TE

It can run with 1,2,3 or 4... No issues. I have started with 2 -4TB and now with 4-2TB's( 16TB). No issues so far.

App's inbuilt is appealing and also HDMI port for connecting directly to monitor/TV is good and play thru XBMC.. I am using it for surveillance recording with my cameras placed for security and it is working perfectly.

Regards

Thanks Srini. Good to hear from a first hand user. How many discs do you have running? Does the NAS run with a single disc or does it have to be paired with at least one more?

Are you running LAN cable between Pi and the NAS or using WiFi? I am running via LAN and it plays smoothly without any issue even with a file of 30 to 40gb HD audio. It seems that these kind of big files (high bit rates) movie files stutter if played over wifi.

Yes, Running through LAN but still stutter

And how do you propose I route my STB, DVD player and PS3 through the media player?

If your intention is to use the TV for NTSC playback then I think you should invest in a NTSC-PAL converter. This way which ever might be the source you can convert as per your TV's compatibility. For example like this converter.

That is exactly what I am using. And a very good one at that.

But, I was being suggested to use a Media Player instead of a converter which wouldn't have worked.

Hmm then I would say get a simple media player within your budget and also get a HDMI switcher. So you can have multiple HDMI sources connected to the switcher and then to the converter to the TV. The reason I am saying is that the TV may not be permanent and you may wish to change it in the future so this way you can save and use it later on.

That is also not a problem. The upscaler/converter has HDMI switcher capabilities. Plus my AVR serves that purpose too.

I had just started off with asking for reviews on the Asustor NAS and the thread went to question me on my choice of components.

The signal conversion and switching is and never was a problem. It's funny where this conversation went with just a couple of members focusing on the subject.
