Xtreamer Media Player (XMP) Owners Thread

Welcome to HFV MidnightWatcher, have a great time here:)

You have a point mate. Do we have to do anything different to install the emergency firmware when we have a working older firmware? If yes, please list the steps for us (just what you did differently would suffice).

Thanks in advance:)
Hi, thanks. Yes, installation is different. The "emergency" firmware is simply named "install.img". Just put it on a FAT32 formatted USB thumb drive, and with the Xtreamer powered off, press "Home" and "3" and "Power" on the remote about one second apart. The Xtreamer will power on, fully install the new firmware and automatically reset the unit back to defaults.

The first time you do this your Xtreamer will boot up noticeably faster after it has completed (this is especially true if you've only used the regular firmware upgrades in the past). Try measuring the boot times before and after the "emergency" firmware update.

Download 2.3.1 emergency firmware here.

So this is the reason for my xtreamer is taking so much time to boot up these days. It feels like that a PC is getting booted up and it's bit annoying. I'll do the emergency upgrade and see if the boot time improves. Can others please update with the boot time of their Xtreamers(From Power On time to the home Menu appearing time)?

Guys, any idea how to created a playlist sort of thing for the music at the Xtreamer? If I create a playlist using winamp will it work with the xtreamer? I kinda doubt that but is there a way to do it? I'm surprised why there is not folder play for music on the Xtreamer. That would also have been convenient.

EDIT: Good news: Playlists saved with winamp works like a charm. Just tested it.
Bad news: My Xtreamer takes around 50secs to boot up. Isn't it too much or I'm expecting too much?

this is one thing i have also noticed, in the ver 2 firmwares the startup time is huge
earlier firmwares were faster

Got Xtreamer last week.

Experience so far:
1. Plays all the files that I threw at it
2. Not easy to plug in WiFi dongle and a USB pendrive at the same time. Both USB slots are too close.
3. User interface is clunky. Needs a lot of polish.

A question,

Where do I enter location of a shred folder?

E.g. \\pc\foldername

Could not find any place in UI to where I could do that.

For the same what i did is i bought a powered 4 port Logitech hub. Now there are no worries of plugging things in or out and i can connect up-to 4 devices through it .

Hi everyone,
I have been going through this thread since few days and have decided to buy Xtreamer (instead of WD TV Live). I was going through the deals available and found this one on the ebay. New Xtreamer HDD Media Player Full HD1080P WiFi MP3 MP4 According to the description it is the new 2010 model with sidewinder cooling and no fan + the wifi for Rs.9490
The seller has mentioned that it has warranty from Xtreamer India.
What do you think about this deal guys? Should I go for this one or is there a chance of getting a better price?

Regards,
Rajat

Good price. You can get another 10% off that price using ebay coupons. 8.5k is an excellent price for the new xtreamer with.

Has anybody tried streaming videos from laptops or PC to Xtreamer? What software is required on the PC? Is it possible to stream picture slide shows as well? I have a lot of personal pictures and videos on my PC, about 10GB. Would like to know if I can stream them using Wifi. I dont have a LAN connection to Xtreamer.

Yeah you can. To stream pictures and videos from PC to Xtreamer you dont need additional software. You need a wireless network either Xtreamer connected to Wireless router or by buying two Xtreamer wireless antenna. I have connected Xtreamer to wireless router.

Thanks. I have a wireless setup already for my Xtreamer. I use it for watching videos from the net. I can also access shared drives from PC. My requirement now is to be able to play the video/ run programs from PC and stream it to Xtreamer over wireless. I believe this requires some software on PC.

If you are on Windows Vista / 7 then this capability in built-in.

You can user "Windows Media Connect" or any other UPNP server.

Details on : Sharing your media

On Xtreamer select "UPNP" as source.

Hello,

Well i am new to all this, the thing is that i have just bought my new 50" plasma and i wanted to play some blu ray movies, but the prices for those are too inflated, so at first i thought about HTPC but other people on the thread suggested to go for media player, i would like to know that can i download blu ray movies from internet using torrents and then play them on my plasma using this product, also what other options are there ? i have a wifi connection setup at home, and my connection speed is 1 Mbps, does this speed any role while playing content from my PC if using the wifi feature ? if yes then can i download the movies and then transfer them to a HDD and play with these players, sorry for all the noob questions but i have no idea what these media players do, neither do i have any idea about which one is better.

Thanks!!

speed of your internet connection has no bearing on your local network speeds.
If video/ audio stutters on wifi, connect using wired lan, at least one device to the router directly via wire.
if you already have a computer that is powerful enough - install tversity, and stream to ps3.

No actually my PC is not very strong, that is the reason i am looking for media player, which do u think will meet my requirement, i mostly want to play blu ray rips downloaded from demonoid on my plasma, not much of a music buff, so that is my main requirement ?
