I am thinking of dong one thing to solve my problem. Connecting the tv out of my tv to a device and recording television, then exporting the files from the device later. Can this be done? What would be the best device for this? Kindly give me options. My brother is coming from US in first week of August and can bring a device from there as well if need be.

Kindly help.

Also will this work with only cable tv or tata sky too as I am just exporting the tv out signal to a device.

Hi Pratters,

I think any DVD Recorder that has an inbuilt HDD or a HDD-based Digital Video Recorder (Digital video recorder - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) should serve your purpose. Regarding feeding TV signal to DVD Recorder, it doesn't necessarily have to be connected STB->TV & TV->DVDREC; I think some of these devices might be able to support passthrough connections STB->DVDREC->TV. Not sure of PAL/NTSC aspects though, but I would suggest search on Amazon, pick a device, download it's User Manual and check out Specifications, and Connections sections. Some of these devices have built-in Tuners too, but I think that will be useless with a STB.

Cheers!

Nope, I have not come across this in any TV since the TV itself is meant to display videos and not send it out to another video device. The only solution is to use a DVR as suggested by borg & rydhun.

And this thread of yours seems to have a similar question or is it a different question?

I waguely remember my relative recording TV programs (doordarshan?) to video casettes through a Casette recorder. Don't know of the connections though.

How was it possible given the above post?

Same way, Pass-through: the Cable connection flows to TV via the VCR. Back-then, we just used RF connections instead of an AV connections.

Cheers!

Rydhun has answered it for you. DVRs work the same way except that they are digital. However the OP had asked for a video out from a TV which as far as I know is not available in any TV.

Thanks. Some one please suggest a device which can do this.

I have 3 old LG TVs which have video out! :) I am so excited.

I do with internal TV tuner card which can record AV signals on PC directly from DVD to Divx format.
Other option is PVR like Tivx.

For standard cable tv, you can just get a pinnacle tv tuner. That will do the job just fine.

However for HDTV recording, its not possible as the signal out of HDMI has HDCP encryption.
