Xtreamer Media Player (XMP) Owners Thread

Your approach is right, you don't need the antenna and can order later if needed. But if you have a laptop that you use wirelessly to connect to your home network..then use the one provided with xtreamer. I use it with my laptop and get a strong signal throughout my house. It is much better than many commerically available ones.

thanks santosh

so i shud be fine minus the antenna

let me know which HDD i shud go for

Buy an external HDD of maximum size that you can find. HD movies fill up your disk space like crazy.

If you plan to travel with your xtreamer, get a USB powered Hard disk. If you don't see too much movement ie., if it will be installed in your Home Theater, then go in for an AC powered one. The USB powered ones are relatively expensive and cost almost double of a similarly sized AC powered one.

I have both and carry my xtreamer and USB Hard Disk on my trips, connect to the hotel tv and catchup on my movies:)

The maximum internal SATA HDD is 500GB. You can safely go for Seagate and such like brands which offer warranty of 3-5 yrs.

It supports two external disks of 3TB each. I agree with Santhol that you must buy the highest capacity external disk i.e. 3TB if you find. It may be costly though. If you dont have budget then go for internal 500GB first.

There is a list of HDDs compatible for Xtreamer. You can refer this before you buy the disk. IMO most of the disks from reputed brands work.

You can find the list here. Download the PDF file and see. Can not load here as its more than 1MB.

Not A Good Step

Well santosh not a good step, watching movies on tv in a hotel or shifting media player in bedroom, please show respect to your theatre, you deserve a ban watching movies other then at your theatre.

In the bedroom or hotel they are other ways to entertain or kill time.

Earlier I was complaining HD audio was not working for my xtreamer. Yesterday I tried again its working all DTS HD MA, DolbyTrue HD, Dolby Digital Plus.

I have 25" CRT TV, Onkyo 3300, xtreamer 2.4.2 firmware. All these day for TV out setting in xtreamer I used as PAL. Yesterday I changed it to 1080p well DTS HD MA and Dolby Digital Plus displayed in my Onkyo 3300. Though DolbyTrue HD did not work, for that I experimented with TV out setting on xtreamer and it worked only for 720p. This brought a smile on my face. This were the main reason of purchasing these devices. :-) :-)

Hey Rajesh,

I'm on a lookout for a media player with HD audio support, though I have a playonHD......it only downmixes HD audio to normal surround.... I am considering the Xtreamer and I was just curious to test this new Xtreamer before purchasing one. If you dont mind will you be able to lend your player to me to test it in my HT setup???(If yes, You can come down to my place with your player, I stay in Jayanagar 7th block.....or else I can come to your place and pick it up ) And then if i'm satisfied i'll order one.

thanks.
Aneel.

:) Vinay, I know you think watching movie on lesser medium that in HT is blasphemy. But frankly, I do not get enough time to watch all movies in the Home Theater. As you know, watching in Home Theater is like cutting yourself out from the rest of the home and that is not possible for another 2 to 3 years....until my son(26 months now) grows older. Currently, I am able to watch around 5 movies/hd documentaries in a month in the HT. At this rate, I will lag behind big time on movies. There are some movies which are more about the storyline, comedy and I enjoy them anywhere - even on CRT TV. HT is reserved for movies with SQ and PQ. I do not play non-HD content in the HT whatsoever.

The Power Of Personal Theatre

Hello Santosh,

Very true i can never imagine seeing a moving at place other then my mini theatre, see i am without a projector for more then a month, by the time it is installed it would be 45 days or so, i am on a fasting period, no cinema hall for me, no watching via television, but then you know attack is the best form of defence, i will play my cards well, if i have been seeing 2 movies and 5 episodes of foregin tv serials a week, i will do my best to double it a week, and guess what, the first 7 days 2 movies a day.

As far as not getting enough time to watch movies in home theatre, it is more to do with playing the cards well, like in my case i am much busier then you and many others keeping in mind that very often my market trades last for a whopping 14 hours, so what i do is i watch movie in piece meals, like watch for 30 minutes, take a break for 30 minutes, catch up with whatever routine and urgent which is awaiting my attention, this is a matter of pure discipline, which i set timers via my i-pod.

It is very true that when we are in our private theatre, we completely cut out with the outside world, no mobiles etc, there have been times when it is pouring heavily outside or crackers being burst, and i do not know of a inch, etc, etc.

In your case, you can always look for opportunities in watching movies on more regular basis in your theatre by times when son is sleeping, not around, etc. While i know woman, often like not to be in the house, those are the golden times to speed up with the movies, and very often she will go for days to her mom's house, so a great period again, when woman are not on talking terms because of a usual small rift, and the golden card is always there the 30 minute view and equivalent break. Among the mother of crackers is at least 4 times a year, where you will get 1 to 3 days fully for yourself, at these times one can follow the culture of film festival, like how ajay had been seeing 4 movies a day, so shall we conclude time is not a issue, playing well is the issue?

I am of a very strong believer that anyone who makes a theatre and will not watch 2 or 4 movies and related a week, his theatre should be sealed for quite number of days, as a penalty, so that we give better respect to the entertainment den.

Well deep inside you are quite aware that if movie is only a story line and related, it sure does not qualify for watching on a television, because there is a zero comparison between your theatre and the so called television.

In my case too my theatre is reserved for only 720p movies and foreign TV serials, and needless to say watching live data of markets, especially when the stakes are high, etc.
