Hello!

My quest for good stereo sound continues. After having landed the MS Carnival 6 speakers and a CA 640A amp, I am now on the lookout for a good CD Changer - preferably 5 discs (or more?). I have seen a Denon one that costs around 18K or so. Well, budgets are limited etc so would appreciate your help in getting a good CD Changer - even pre-owned is fine as long as in good condition - working as well as aesthetically.

On an aside, I do not see many CD Changers being available - will these produce any lesser quality than single disc players?

From what I've seen, the changer mechanism conks off in most of these changers rendering them useless. They are most often designed for 'convenience' more than anything else. That said, there was a(n) (older) model from Yamaha which was a 5-disc spinner that had very good build quality and decent sound. Can't remember the model no. now, sorry. I am not sure if they still have the range in production and how reliable they would be. If it was me, I'd look at a (re-purposed?)PC based playback system with a decent DAC. Just my 0.02...

Thanks for the advise, grubyhalo.

Yes, my cousin has a really good Yamaha 5 disc-changer that he has had for years now. Will check with him on the model number. Yes, it is more of a convenience too - and I would love to have that convenience! :p

Still searching. Anyone?

Hello Kittu,

You can visit national market to check out if they have any.

Have to disagree with you on this one. This is like the old folks who used to say that external modems are better than internal ones-without citing any reasons for their case.

QC issues relating to CD changers have been fixed well over a decade ago, and my Onkyo 6 CD changer bought in 2011-after the QC issues were fixed works flawlessly even today. The convenience issue is so high compared to a single CD player that I had no hesitation in buying this unit and recommend it with no hesitation whatsoever. I dont know about other brands since I have no experience with them.

Ah, I see. Looks like my 0.02 is worth still less! Atleast, the 4-5 players that I handled had mechanical issues, mostly with the changer mechanism. They were mostly Sony, Pioneer, JVC and the Yamaha. The Sony even drew lines on the CDs! They were old but not sure if they were all 10 years old. The Yammy is more than 10 years old and is still working flawlessly...

Its been a year since I started this thread...

I had given up on the idea of getting a CD Changer since I was about to travel and had other plans but those haven't materialized. So, my hunt continues.

Does anyone have a good, working CD Changer for sale? Need with remote please! Minimum 3 CD Changer. :o

Thanks for the offer! But not sure how I will be able to pick it up from Mumbai. Perhaps someone else can take it from you....

check for Yamaha CDC-600 . This one has a USB port too . This one has been listed in the Yamaha India Website .

Never used it ...so cant comment on the sound .

I had a Samsung 3 CD changer ....did quite well for few years ...

Thanks for pointing out. I am somehow not looking to spend too much for a CD Changer. Perhaps I should put this post up in the "Wanted" section.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
