5.1 sound in dish truHD

Are you sure talking about TS+HD? Its confirmed by the CEO contact that its a known issue which is not yet resolved and it has only restored passthrough on TS HD boxes after months of outage.

Yes it is working on TS + HD (PVR). It can bitstream DD or also PCM. Both of them are working for me.

You may have to choose the language option on your remote to get DD stream as Dish HD broadcast them as both AAC2.0 (PCM stereo) and DD5.1 (only available on few channels and content - probably as per original broadcast - this is better than fake 5.1 engineered by Tatasky on some channels/programming).

I checked the language too, earlier this was available in the Movies Now Channel with two english tracks namely "eng" and "eng 5.1" but they are no longer available. "eng 5.1" was great but alas no more :(

I have faced the same problem with Airtel HD and denon 1312.
I have asked for help from Airtel/Denon and even this forum.
Not much use, but some clues only.
Finally I have solved the problem.

I have connected the HDMI cable from sat. set top box directly to TV and the optical output to AVR through an optical cable. When AVR is getting only audio signals through Optical cable, it detects DOLBY (only for HD channels)

(Initially I have connected the optical audio output from TV to AVR, but the sound was very less and a detectable delay was present)

(Drawback of first method is that you cannot get on screen display of AVR while watching the satelite TV, for this you need to select the particular HDMI port where AVR monitor output is connected....like HDMI 1 - AVR Monitor output and HDMI 2 - Sat set top box)

Give a try and see

I have airtel dth hd, denon 1312XP, sony bravia 40 LED

well ,I was surprised and frustrated with airtel dth hd which DOES NOT SENDS 5.1 DOLBY SOUND FROM HDMI,,,thats crazy and airtel technical support have no clue when we talk to them about this issue

so after doing a lot of research I did this setting and its working like a charm now

1) connect hdmi from DTH to AVR and HDMI from AVR to TV
2) (very imp) connect optical digital cable from DTH to AVR (this will give you dolby 5.1 sound on HD channels)

now in denon av receivers you have to select in input settings optical as audio , I must say denon is smart enough to take 5.1 audio of hd channels through optical and normal sound from hdmi...

now lastly you cant control volume of HD channel when its coming from optical so you have to program your airtel universal remote to work with denon AVR volume control

all set ... set the DTH default volume to say 40 and just keep chaning AVR volume

you will note a huge difference from 5.1 dolby true sound :)

although not in context of this thread, I am seeing a drop in PQ of some of the existing true HD channels on Dish HD speciallu MTunes HD. However PQ in Colours HD and TEN HD is still good. May be because Dish is trying to stream too much in limited bandwidth

Thanks saj2001ind and btCochin for your inputs. I have Airtel HD at home and purchased Denon 1312 in Abu Dhabi two days back. Before reading this post, I was in a dilemma how connections work to get good audio from Airtel DTH to AVR. Now I am clear.

I have small clarification..

In Airtel HD box, I found s/pdif optical slot. Is it same as Digital optical Audio out slot which we are referring to in this post?

Cheers,
Kiran

yes u can connect digital cable to it

These companies have ridiculous support, who have no clues about this type of system (like Optical & HDMI), the companies should arrange some type of workshop to learn them before engaging them to customer support.

Reached Hyderabad and there were no issues with customs bringing Home Theatre (Denon AVR 1312, LG DVD player, Pure Acoustics Subwoofer and Speakers). Eagerly opened box to connect Denon with Subwoofer, speakers and my Airtel DTH. But not able to understand the connections between Subwoofer and Denon 1312. Called Denon support team in Hyderabad and they told it takes 2-3 days to come once we pay INR 1500.
Like to know whether I can do the connections with the guidance from this forum?
1. How to connect Denon AVR 1312 to this subwoofer?
2. And how to connect speakers to subwoofer?
3. Will there be advantage if we call support person to install in terms of placing speakers at right distance and any other factors which we are not aware of.
4. In case we need to go with support service then is there any one near to Chanda Nagar, Hyderabad who is with good knowledge.

Image of Subwoofer slots is attached with this post.

Eagerly wait for the response to connect the system soon.

Cheers,
Kiran

1. There should be a subwoofer out on the avr. Connect this output to the RCA input marked L or R of the subwoofer using RCA cable.
2. No need to connect speakers to subwwoofer. Connect the 5 satellite speakers to the avr.
3. Denon 1312 has no auto calibration using audessey mic. So you will need to manually adjust the speaker settings. Do it yourself and call the denon support only if you are not satisfied with the sound output.

Thanks baijuxavior for your quick response. As you told, I will connect it today itself. I am attaching DVR 1312 slots image also here for more information on connections. I am bit confused about RCA jack (left and right in subwoofer but only one slot in Audio out of receiver) and also about what are the slots to connect Receiver to Speakers.

Image of DVR 1312 here..

Thanks in advance.

Kiran

Connect the subwoofer out of the avr to either the left or right input of the subwoofer using one of the jack of a normal two jack RCA cable. You could also buy dedicated subwoofer connectors if you are an 'audiophile'. RCA 'Y' cables are available for splitting the single RCA output to two if you wish to connect that way.

Speakers are to be connected to the five pair of binding posts. Refer to the quick installation guide to know more.

Hi baijuxavior.. Thanks a lot.

With your inputs, I am able to succesfully connect subwoofer to AVR using one of the jack. And connected speakers to AVR and it is working. Let the settings of speaker configurations in AVR as it is becaue I dont know ideal settings.

And also succesfully able to connect my Airtel DTH as per information from saj2001ind earlier.

Few queries..

1. From my DVD player which has Co-ax audio out, I will connect to AVR. I have Co-ax cable purchased earlier for 30 rupees :). Doubting whether cable is sufficient to required audio output to AVR? If not then what is the recommendations?
2. Speaker wires - I connected speakers to AVR with old wires which I was using for my Panasonic HTIB few years back. Need to know good speaker cables which I can purchase.
3. Distance of speakers - As of now, I kept all speakers almost adjacent to TV. Like to ideal distance between speakers to get good quality? My hall is 9 ft x 30 ft and TV is on one site of hall (9 ft) and we will see TV from 10 ft in hall.
4. Any recommended speaker settings including bass?
5. Sometimes when I am watching hd movie channels. I am listening more of background music than what they are hearing. Any settings to be changed?
6. On backside of subwoofer, in addition to power button noticed audio volume knob? do i need to change volume in subwoofer for better effect?

So many questions. I am very new to AVRs and HT so want to know these things to configure correctly on our own instead of going to support service.

Thanks in advance.

Kiran

well if ur DVD player is havning a HMDI then connect ur AVR with its HDMI out rather than coax...

check ur AVR there should be setting for adjusting volumes of all channels, do that to get ur desired sound for background etc

back side of sub woofer volume knob is to adjust the bass of the sub woofer

Thanks Saj2001Ind.

LG dvd player which I got in package with Denon as free does not have hdmi out. It has normal audio video jacks and coaxial audio out.

I will check on channel settings.

it would be worth checking if ur DVD player really support 5.1 channel out with coaxial , if thats the case then get a coax cable and connect with it,

and btw which model of denon avr you got with free DVD, and how how much, was it online deal :)

Hi.. LG dvd player supports coaxial digital. It is written near the slot.

I got Denon avr 1312, pure acoustics Subwoofer, speakers and LG dvd player for AED 1499 in an offer in sharaf DG Abudhabi.

I am trying for coaxial digital cable since morning but not able to find it. May be I am checking in wrong place or Sunday being most of shops closed.

I was checking in electonic shops and computer shops in hyderabad.
