Friends ,

Please suggest me the configuration which is necessary to assemble a high end PC. Here is a snapshot of the requirement.

Budget : In between 50k to 60k , but can be extended 10% max as the requirement is critical.

Category :- Desktop

OS :- Should be dual boot , windows 7/XP and Red Hat . Can go for dual hard disks as well if suggested

Disk Space :- 500 GB

Memory :- Min 8 GB of RAM.

Processor Speed : Dual Core, minimum 2 Ghz clock speed

Primary Purpose :- Architectural work with Fusion Middleware/SOA Suit 11g. The server version will be installed in the PC ( not the full professional version)

Gaming :- No

Video/Music :- Sometimes casually, I generally dont see movies or listen music in software version

Photo/Video Editing :- Sometimes

External Drive :- DVD writer

Screen :- 17" LCD or something similar

So please suggest me a configuration with appropriate brands of the components.

Thanks in advance
Sanju

Hi Sanju,
Your requirements don't need a high end computer. An Intel i3 or similar AMD should work. Just double check system requirements for that specific software that you use - Fusion/SOA etc

Thanks for the reply Santhosh. I didnt provide the actual usage as it may unnecessary complicated my question. In fact I am going to manage some integrations within a Seibel based customer system + a propitiatory telecom system with extremely high cardinal transaction + a SAP financial system. All these three systems contains Terabyte of Oracle based data and located in separate geographic. So whatever I have specified in my query is almost a minimum system requirement as par the proposal.

Hi Sanju,

Not sure what you meant by High end in your post. The processor requirement listed is the entry level.

First decide the processor according to your budget and choose the other components accordingly.

These are the Dual core options for desktop build

1) AMD Athlon II X2 260 ( 3.2 GHz ) - Around Rs. 3100 - VFM
2) Intel Pentium G620 ( Sandybridge socket LGA 1155 ) 2.6 GHz ( Rs. 3800 )
3) Intel Core i3 ( Between Rs 5000 - 6000 )

Avoid the previous Pentium dual core ( E series ) as it is old socket.

I have built one with AMD Athlon II X2 255 few months back.

Thanks,
Sunil

What Santhosh and Sunil has mentioned is correct. For your needs a common PC is enough. Siebel, SAP and all other systems that you will be using, will be already hosted on a cluster of servers, as you mentioned, in a different geography. Your computer will at best serve as a client machine or a thin client, depending what kind of access your admin grants you.

What you really need is a super fast internet connection, which will be able to transfer large chunks of data at demands. Other than that, any good pre-assembled PC will do the trick for you, as the current standard configuration meets or exceeds your requirement.

Or Sanju are you trying to setup a dummy environment at your home to practice on integration of these softwares?

Ideally with 8GB RAM you should not be getting good performance with Siebel (I hope 8.x or above) server, Oracle 11g, SOA Suite 11g and SAP, at least 16 GB should be looked for.

and of course if this is going to be a vertically scaled system then at least you should look for parallel processing with either server grade mobo + multiple processors. Ideally in production these are hosted by dedicated high availability active / passive clusters but I am not sure what will be the purpose of your environment.

You certainly need a processor with more than 2cores
i suggest i5 if yo can afford more then its the i7

if yo are gonna use 32bit windows then dont install 8GB of Ram (in 32bit only 3GB is used )

4Gb is enough for a reasonable system

always go with the processor if yo want to increase speed

in my opinion oracle 11g db, SAP, SOA Suite and Siebel all take loads of memory so at least 16 Gb of RAM is what he should look for. However like many vertically scaled system his problem will be IO contension if there are lots of transaction that will be natively processed in one single box. But he will have to live with that.

Hi,

I am in the field of animation and Vfx we do lots of architectural rendering and processing, i will provide u simple configuration, i guess this should fit u in ur budget...

Go for Intel Core i7 2600k, K = unlocked or wait till Feb End the New series of LGA 2012 Processor of i7 will hit the market, but that will be little high on price i guess..

MotherBord- go for the Gigabyte UD7. Otherwise the Asus Maximus / P8P67 Deluxe / Evo or the Gigabyte UD4 and MSI P67A-GD80, Asus P8Z68-V Pro anyone will do gud and see wht fits the budget,

Ram - you can choose Corsair Vengence 1600, 4GB slot will cost u 1400 now, u can go for 8 or 16GB,

Hard-disk - Very Important that u Choose 120 or 80GB SSD as ur primary which runs OS and 1TB normal sata harddisk, look for gud Western Digital 10000rpm harddisk,

Most Important One is ur Graphic Card, This is wht Renders ur scene in work-space, for any architectural work, which uses Open GL, Depending on wht software u use, check on software provider wht graphic card they suggest,
Usually we all use Nvidia Quadro series Graphic card, not Not Nvidia Geforce, Geforce cards are for Gaming,
See Quadro 4000, 5000, and 6000

and Not to forget u need better power, those ordinary SMPS comes in Cabinet wont work, u need atleat 730W powersupply, Check in Corsair and cooler master...

Unless the OP clearly specify his requirement, I dont see any point in recommending any configuration.
For using a siebel or any web based client app a normal PC with good internet connectivity is required, all the load will be handled by the servers.

If the OP is looking for a server environment, the configs that are being suggested is nothing compared to actual and will be very complicated with separate file servers. I dont think he is looking for the second option.

Thank you very much everybody for your valuable input. In fact this machine is not exactly for a home use and I offcourse will be getting a professional help for this but before recommending something to client I was just playing around various resources I have to gather as much accurate information as I can.

To be more specific on actual requirement , it will actually be playing a part of the node of a hybrid cloud. Now as hybrid consists of Public, Community and Private, in a particular derivative of time this node can be used as a client and in the next derivative ( again against time) it may be perceived as a server. Though neither Siebel nor SAP will be installed as a server in this particular machine but a virtual computing flavor ( at least a gigaflop) will be required to orchestrate the server with a real time cluster especially for the PaaS category of cloud.

Long stories can written on the aforesaid but in a nutshell this is the fact.

Like 'Businessman' posted , perhaps we are going to use a Mac. A discussion with Apple technical team yesterday might going to materialize as they are agree to modify some of their configuration in a very minimum cost .
