My 4+ year old US version PS3 stopped reading Blue ray discs yesterday. The 'reading' icon on the top right of the screen keeps rotating but discs are not readable by it.

What shall I do?

The following have been already tried, but no luck:
- Inserted a lens cleaning disc. Not readable.
- Set up PS vertically. No change.

The only things left to do are:
- get the lens cleaned physically.
- or get the drive changed locally.

Am based in Gurgaon, if I need to get the drive changed, please help me in finding a competent mechanic who can do the job at the right price.
I dont want to go to the sony service center as they are a bunch of fraudsters and charge sky high prices by creating new problems in addition to the problems reported.

Please help.

running CFW (custom firmware. Shall I flash the firm ware again?. Everything was working fine till day before yesterday.

Remember if you are upgrading from CFW 3.5 or lower , you may not be able to revert back. Better read some online sources before you do.

I am in the same road. I was quoted Rs.6500 for changing the optical drive. I tried resetting the PS3, but it did not help. I haven't updated the firmware though.

There is a guy by the name of Kumar in Palika Bazaar and he is a genius at fixing/ Modding any game console. I don't have his number but he is a famous guy there and usually runs a small repair shop there on the 1st Floor, ask for him from any Game/ Console retailer there. It seems like your PS3's Optical Pickup needs replacement.

You could exchange it at Sony Service Centre for the new 160GB slim PS3; a discount of upto 70% is offered officially by sony if you have the original B & W.
