Best bookshelf speakers under $2000

bhagwanji,

aapke disciples.. itne saare options dekh ke confuse na ho jaye..

:-))

No Sir;
I have just enlisted the options.
If 1 .2 Lacs is to be spent, let the potential buyer do the rounds - listen to the options & then decide what it is that is liked.
Only buy a product that one 'prefers' !
What is the idea of buying a product that is liked by me or by you when the listener is going to be someone else ?
Let the buyer listen & decide - what is liked by him....

I personally have always purchased gear that is liked by me & not what some one else suggested. I have always maintained that audio is so personal - so it has to be the representation of ones own likes & preferences....
It must be a manifestation of ones own idea of how music should be played....
There is no right & no wrong - these are all flavours & we all thrive in the diversity. So I feel !!
I do hope that Mr. Vikas goes & listens to all the options I have enlisted....

shanti.. shanti.. bhagwan.. was just humoring - if i may use the word..

ofcourse.. one needs to audition ( with own gear ) and buy.. backbreaking sometimes.. and thats why too many options can be upsetting for the buyer..

anyways.. to each his / own and YMMV..

:-))

regards,
mpw

@ Varma Vikas.
I like the way you have decided to go for a bookshelf, as most floor standers below USD 4k in my experience have been disappointing or rather I've always preferred a book shelf rather that a floor stander in a similar price. Also i think going brick by brick is a good option or else you might end up with more compromise than you might like. Although i guess you'll have to upgrade your amp as fast as possible after you get your speakers.
Would like to know what music do you listen to? Is there any set up that you've listened to? that you've like or the opposite? your inputs can help in narrowing the list of probables.
To an already big list & very good list of recommendations, I would add Dynaudio- a used 1.3se could be great choice & PMC tb2i se.
I hope you'll take time to audition as many as you can before taking a call.
All the best
Cheers

Vikas, split your budget, $1000 for amp and $1000 for speakers.
You could get a nice integrated like an Exposure 2010 or Naim Nait 5i (used) for about $1000. For the speakers, check out an Epos M12i. You are all set for a tremendously musical journey.

If later you decide to upgrade your amp, your speakers are good enough to support a higher grade amp and on the contrary if you decide to upgrade your speakers, these amps will be happy to drive a higher end speaker as well.

not that i've heard a zu , as described by Dr bass i guess there are many similar sounding speakers & on hearing them i've asked the same questions, but a lot of people love such colorations & to them it makes sense. So as bhagwan put's it, audio is a very personal thing.
Cheers

Thank you Mr. Bhagwan,

I highly appreciate your time and valuable options that u gave to me.
I will definately consider paradigm and Legacy audio.
I wish to tell u one thing that couple of months ago I had taken the audition of Paradigm studio 100 with rotel 1550 amp.
That was a horrible truth which came in front of me first time.
That was a bad and harsh sound. From no angle they were sounding like 1.9 lakh rupees of speakers and 1.45 lakh of amp( however this was not my budget). This is I will call money snatching on the name of HIGH END GEAR.

However again I will take the audition of Paradigm signature2( may be bad time before).

Bhagwanji , I am one of those people who wish to have the system for long long years and never wish to change, once selected the best one. This is the reason I take whole lot of time in selection of everything.

Hello Dr. Bass,

Thank you,

Naim nait5i is costing approx 1.20 lakhs in India. Dealer is there in Mumbai.

Hi Neo,
Hope u r good there,
Thank you for your time,

Yes , I wish to do it brick by brick. With this process I will need not to do compromise, Only the time gap will increase MAY BE ONE YEAR, however no issues . For the obsession, One can wait. This is better instead of investing the money in average ordinary things and still no satisfaction. This is the reason I had written that till the time I do not upgrade my amp, I will use speakers with the current amp.

Thank you.

Hello Bhagwan ji,

I liked paradigm signatures2 (however out of my budget and would wait and increase budget for these. I think they cost approx 2 lakhs in delhi). I just need to know that have you ever listened them as If I go by specs low end bass and music should be very good and I need not to get a sub woofer.

As I said in my earlier posts that I have been looking for the quality material too, I have found that Paradigm uses barellium speakers in signature series and according to my knowledge, this is one of the best materials.

On the whole If I make my mind to go for these,do you consider these one of the best? Will take audition too.

Plz guide me as low end sound is very important.

Neo,
I listen to Michael jackson, Celione dion, kenny G,bollywood, remixes hindi,
Enigma.
Movies- Independence day, jurassic park, titanic, rocky series, rambo, terminator, troy batman, harry potter, etc etc etc

Till yet I liked paradigm signature s2 on the basis of specs and construction material as they use berrilium speakers(one of the best material). I have not heard them, however expensive & will wait for them.

Hi Dinyaar,

Thank you for your reply,

So, if in case i get b&w 805 used, should it be a real good deal? are b&w speakers really good? just asking generally beacuse they are very popular. Actually i am emphasizing on the quality of the material of the speakers also.

and yes , that was ascendo c5 single driver. after hearing that i felt, no need to for high end gear.
If I go for the speakers like b&w, after sometime I will go for the amps like belles or something else. Do you have any idea about naim nait 5i?
However this is only 50w/channel and belles is 125w/channel

AND YES I STRONGLY NEED SOLID LOW END. actually this shows the real quality of the speakers and amplifiers.

Hi
You have to have realistic expectations regarding BASS!!!!! Its the quality of bass that matters!!!! In fact MID RANGE and not BASS shows the real quality Vikas.
Only a few select book shelves will really give you great bass. These are meant for small, medium sized rooms and too much low end is the last thing you want. In fact most problems are due to the bass. Other issues like too much liveliness etc may be managed in various ways.
The 805s @ 1 to 1.25 L is a good buy. It will work. (Reason I mention this figure is cause I sold mine for about this WITH STAND)
Naim will drive it but its not the best option to my ears. Something more laid back would work better to my ears as the Aluminium tweeter has too much sizzle in my opinion.
Maybe you can look at some Dynaudios. They are generally good at bass. Neo has suggested a Contour 1.3 SE USED. This is a superb speaker (one I regret sellin) but I doubt you will get it easily.

Generally I dont suggest underground or off beat gear to beginners in HIFI as they generally change stuff as soon as they get their bearings. By this I mean they do a bit of research, hear a variety of gear & come to a preference. If he/ she has something from the regular mass market brands it is much easier to sell.
Rgds

Hmm! there's a saying don't judge a book by it's cover & even at the cost of repeating don't judge a component by the spec's or the type of materials used alone. Please go & audition stuff. Since you have mentioned that you want to keep this system for a long run i guess you can make trip to Mumbai or even Bangalore & Chennai, as it's money well spent for the long run.
Cheers

Bhagwan ji ,

Could you please put some light on Paradigm studio60, in case I wish to go for floorstanders?

Hello !

What light can I shed ? You need to listen & decide.
If you like Canadian Sound or not; How can I comment on your taste & preferences;;

You shall have to visit the stores & ask for a demo & listen to the product that makes you happy. At the end of the day it a product for you & your music will play through it.

So go out & listen to the 16 different speakers on offer & then decide...

All the Best !

Vikas synergy between components is very important. Every stereo component has a particular signature or character and has to be matched with components of complementary character.

Paradigm is a bright speaker. Similarly rotel has got a signature on the brighter side of neutral. Hence paired together its natural for them to sound harsh. Both of them needs to be paired with components with a warmer signature. For paradigm it should be amps like nad, arcam, musical fidelity .. for rotel it should be speakers like b&w.

Any high end component if not matched with suitable components will sound bad.
