Shaving gear recommendations needed

Hi folks,

I have been using seven o clock platinium blades for a couple of decades now, are there any other blades you would recommend?

In terms of shaving creams, other than godrej, is there anything else with a good fragrance that you would recommend? I am not keen on shaving rounds/ soaps as the shaving creams seem better to me

At present some of the stuff includes the following, I do have the odd disposable blades, gilette fusion , gilette gel etc, but they don't seem to do justice to my shaving rituals

I felt the Gilette Fusion 5 blade Razor to be the smoooooooothest for me!... it doesn't hurt to shave even without a foam/cream sometime, if I'm in hurry...!

I do have a gilette fusion and tend to use to it on rare occasions when I am rushing. I prefer to use the traditional method of getting a lather from a shaving cream and using proper double edged safety blades though , a bit of a traditionalist though. Ideally would like to be able to use a barber's razor but a bit scared of cutting a lot more than I'd want

Ever since I switched to Gillette Gel + Gillette razor, there has been no looking back. First it was Gillette twins, then Sensor, Sensor Excel and currently Mach-3. I may switch to Fusion 5 but don't see the need to.

I found Gillette Gel much better than foam or traditional brush+cream.

The barber's single edge shavers look very chic and all that but they are not very practical.

I lasered off my neck beard. Got rid of everything on neck below jawline.

Now 1 blade of mach 3 that lasted me 1 month lasts me 3 months doing just facial hair shaving. As for shaving cream I just use soap/shampoo in the shower. I find it easier and less of a mess with a smaller carbon footprint.

Now you know why I got fed up with my neckbeard and blades running out in 1 month. Hair is a huge hassle.

I am quite surprised that disposable razors/ gilette's being used more often and the recommendation is go for this.. hmmmm..

I do enjoy a good shave and that's probably why I have been keen on the traditional approach of using razor blades/ lather etc...

I guess trying a Mach 3 is an option , just for the experience though.. I thought there may be a few purists on a hifif forum

I currently use this shaving cream. It's wonderful. Try it. Need only a little amount for a rich lather - it lasts and lasts.

Have you tried the "King of Shaves" line of products? I had tried one of their gels a couple of years ago and for the duration that the tube lasted, I had the best & smoothest shaves of my life. Really.

Agree with you Kix, Mac 3 is good as of now. 1 blade lasts 3 months easily i use L'oreal Shaving foam.

In India I found this selling in Shoppers Stop or Lifestyle retail shops. Used this before was good.

Mind you, laser / ipl =/= permanent hair removal. It's permanent hair reduction. It just grows back in 90% softer/finer (which makes it near 0 effort to shave) It was 100% worth the money. I got so much relief from lasering out my hard neckbeard.

funny no one is talking about brushes. after trying all sorts of stuff, i found the horse hair brush to be the best. the nylon ones are crap. they dont last that long though as over a period of time as the brush looses hair.

"laser / ipl =/= permanent hair removal" means? So you spent 20K over 30 months just to reduce the hair below the jaw. And that time and effort still did not take care of the hair on the chin?

I stopped using synthetic brushes a few years ago, use the so called badger hair brushes nowadays. Depending on which part of the badger the brush comes from, it tends to be more expensive. I don't really believe this, so I stick to the relatively cheaper versions

Meant that IPL and laser are different things however both do permanent hair reduction, not "permanent hair removal" as most people mistake them for. They reduce, hair density, thickness and hardness. The thicker harder and darker the hair, the more effective the treatment, the largest strands get pretty much destroyed permanently, the smaller ones don't get affected as easily so they continue to grow. Thats why the neck area treatment is very effective. It's mostly thick and coarse hair and that's why it's called reduction and not removal. It varies place to place, skin to skin. I'm light skinned so the treatment was safe. Darker skinned people have more melanin. IPL and laser targets melamin so it's dangerous for dark skinned people and not recommended as they can suffer serious burns.

And yes, 20k over 30 months is very spread out.

I had very hard and painful neckbeard from chest till jaw, it was as difficult to shave as it was embarassing in public and not to mention razer burn across the entire neck everytime I shaved. And every time I shaved, the 2nd day id get bruising from the stubble below jaw grazing lower neck. I dealed with it for 10 years trying to shave once every 4-5 days but got sick of the scars. So took the plunge and got rid of it. The treatment over 2 years was fairly effective. HUGE RELIEF, even right now i have my head over a pillow which earlier id be in pain 1 day after shaving from stubble. I have very thin skin and coarse hair strands hurt like hell.

As for the chin, i didnt have any issues with beard above jawline so no need. PLus they charge you 500 Rs more per new area. 2000 Rs per session is dirt cheap for getting such a large surface area as neck lasered. If you tried to do it abroad, you'd be spending 10000 Rs each session. So yeah, no need for getting rid of chin hair, how the hell would I grow a goatee or french beard otherwise?!
