Panasonic dmp-bdt220

Amazon, UK will not ship directly to India. Will have to use Aramex SnS or some such service. Shipping cost will be close to $60. Customs will be aproximate 35% or near to Rs. 5150.

Actually they do, as long as the product is sold and fulfilled directly by amazon.co.uk (click the Amazon Global Eligible link on the left nav before selecting a product).

I am waiting on a BDX3200 from amazon.co.uk shipped by i-parcel with import fee deposit, tracking and what not which makes it expensive :(, but what do you do if you want the thing and don't want to wait.

I checked even now and it is available for international shipping through Amazon UK. The price has dropped now. Perfectly agree with you on taxes and shipping....still to me it is one of the best model.

Try amazon.de. Their price is inclusive of all import fees and customs duty. The service is excellent and in most case you will get the shipment in flat 5 days or even less.

amazon.de does not have this.
I have bought from amazon UK day before after waiting for 15 days on my my order from snapdeal.

I sent a mail to Panasonic and got a call from their sales manager in Delhi saying that this model is out of stock due to high demand and might come back only in late december or early Jan.

Amazon UK has an offer on this player. Buy along with a few blu-rays and you get 10 pounds off. They are also giving Avatar 3D and Titanic 3D free with this but you hav to be UK citizen (or need to have UK address, have to verify). On buying it, Amazon gave me another 10 pounds as credit for my next purchase (it is getting so hard to keep the money with you nowadays). My order has reached dubai already and i might receive it on Monday or Tuesday.

^^^ Panasonic is lying about high demand. There are only a handful of BDP buyers - only 1 in 100. General people donot need a bdp. Those who do, mostly buy Sony or Samsung which are cheaper, far more well known and available. It is only a limited set of enthusiasts that want Panasonic for its possible region free capability. Panasonic is just a screwed up company, at least in India. TV models not available, bdp not available, advertising non-existent. Must be morons running the business.

I had called 4 panasonic showrooms in Bangalore and 2 in Pune.
Even they mentioned high demand for this model

same here friends....i searched all local shops....
then ordered it from infibeam..but did not get a shipment update....then after 5 days of super follow up customer care says the product was never in stock........you can understand the frustration.....
and the local shops cant say anything confirmly...they say after 2 weeks, but nothing concrete....so,.....
its my bad that could not own the pana 220 model...
now ordered sony 490 from ezoneonline...as the price is lucrative 9k against reatil 13.5k.......

Sony 490 is an amazing BD player. PQ wowed me...upscaling is also great. My dvd's look like BD when playing in this Sony. Sony audio is also great but Panasonic seems to have better audio than this.

I also have ordered a BDP490 (Region C), while the review is good, but the issue is that it can't play US/ Europe region coded BDs. And I don't think there are anyone who has the capability to hardware mod of this in India..

I Hope the German Version can be made Region Free.

ALL, and I repeat, ALL, Panasonic BDP's of any country/region can be made completely region free for BD and DVD via the (private) firmware update. The only care you should take care later is not update it with any (higher version) official firmware later. Firmware update is a very simple process. Read post 1.

+1 :clapping:

But they still seem to be the most popular group amongst the enthusiast.

Only because the video enthusiasts are excited by high quality of plasma and region free capability of BDPs. I suspect that Panasonic will stop manufacturing plasma from next year (and so will Samsung and LG).

What is high demand? Need to spell this out correctly. Demand and supply go hand-in-hand to define the equation. If the supply is 100 units per month and demand is 110, then I can very well say that this is high demand, simply because I am unable to meet it. True high demand is when considering all manufacturers put together and then looking at the demand share within.

That is true - the Sony models cannot be made region free - at least not that easily.

I would not subscribe very easily to the statement that Panasonic has better audio quality. The region free firmware update unlocks a menu option called "high clarity sound - Yes/No". But some audiophile needs to test it what it really means.

I Hope the German Version can be made Region Free.
All Panasonic players irrespective of region and country of origin can be made region free.

Its great to see that a firmware update is available to make the Panasonic player region free :clapping: However most of the BD's that I own are region free and hence I thought of not going for the update :)

If you are interested in seeing if a BD is region free or not, you can check it out here - Blu-Ray Region Code Info

I am glad for you.

But I have 185 BDs (171 owned, 14 on order). Out of these 17 are locked Region A while 2 are locked Region B. Same will be true for others too. So I (we) need region free player. Moreover a region free player takes the guess work out of ordering from Amazon. :)

Whoa, you really have a lot of BD's just4kix :) I will soon touch the 100 mark if God be willing ... As regards BD's of specific region I use my Cambridge Audio Azur 650 BD which is region free :)

But I must admit Panasonic BDT220 is a very good BD player. Thanks for your review :clapping:
