Now this is getting ridiculous!!! 3D 1080p Projector under $800

Like Manoj "sir" said, yes it's bound to happen with all 3lcd PJs and some pJs will have it more than others. But once you manually adjust the panels, the difference is too little to notice unless you're standing right next to the screen, especially with the 1080p projectors.

With a Dlp, you'll never face this issue but then Dlp has its own fair share of issues (limited lens shift and zoom) and not perfect either.

Yes, manually adjusting panels help, but its quite tedious process and needs patience. Also, it is not a feature on all the projectors. Its a feature on 5010/6010/5020/6020 but not an advertised feature on Epson 3010/3020. People have found the hidden menu. We can't assume that its a feature on all LCD projectors.

I am seriously considering buying this projector via ishopinternational.com, but i am a little demotivated by the lack of reviews on the net and the fact that an epson tw6100 with similar features cost double. I have heard the phrase "if it sounds to good to be true then it is" enough times to suspect something might not be right. Am i missing something.
Please help me Decide as this will be my first projector. My major requirements are decent 120" screen with HD resolution, 3D capability out of the box.
My current choices are, suggestions are welcome
epson tw6100
Acer H6510BD
Benqw1070

checked on amazon. it says no shipping to India. Can someone post a link.

I checked just now it says its available to ship to india with final landing cost of $1082.29 ... Did u choose amazon as the seller when u tried...

Anyone considering this projector should take notice that this is still not fully launched in the US... One should w8 for a decent number of online reviews(like on projectorreviews.com or projectorcentral.com) to be posted before deciding weather to take the plunge or not... Technical specs & actual performance are 2 diff things altogether... Be patient & w8 for the reviews 1st...

I have bought Benq w1070 from us ncix by ishop international. This is landing cost 60 k . and will arrived 2nd april

Acer is quite new, so we don't know if it has some issues that needs fixing. Acer 9500 had great picture but did had some issues like pixel mapping etc. I don't believe those were fixed ever. I guess it would be safer to avoid it at the time.

However BenQ 1070 has been launched for some time and lots of happy customers. For may be $200 more, its a safer bet.

So should i wait for better reviews or go ahead and buy Epson tw6100 ?
I don't want the BenQ because i want all the 3D features including 2d to 3d conversion.

If u can afford it, then tw6100 is very well priced in India... If u can spend 1 lac then buying it with warranty here in India itself is ur best bet... Furthermore epson has already proved its quality where as acer will require a few months to prove its... Best bet to buy in the next month or so is either the tw6100 or the tw8100 here in India itself...

Hello Manoj and nSinghal. I am setting up my HT system (just haven't got around to converting a bedroom as I plan to do) but will be using a DLP projector (which I got bulbs changed and cleaned before bringing back last year). It is by a manufacturer called SIM2 and is a 3-chip. I was curious to know what the issues are regarding the limited lens shift and zoom that I should be cognizant about please. Regards.

Zoom and lens shift allows you a lot of flexibility when it comes to finding a position to place your projector. The more zoom range and lens shift a projector has, the less you're limited in placement. I don't know how much zoom and lens shift your projector has but since you already have it, the very first thing you should do (before deciding the screen size or projector placement) is to put the projector in your room and turn it on. Then based on your required screen size, find the best place for the PJ placement. You may have to mount it on the ceiling a little further away than what you had planned for. If possible, let us know the model number of the PJ (a link to the online manual of the model would make it even more easier) along with your room size and intented screen size, PJ placement. Based on that info, forum members can help you figure out what screen size is possible or appropriate (bigger isnt always better) based on your room size, viewing distance and your projector.

If your PJ has good zoom range, it'll allow you to place it a little further away than a PJ with zero or limited zoom. Also, if your PJ has a good lens shift range, it'll allow you to place it a little more to the left/right or above/below the Center of the screen compared to a PJ with limited or no lens shift capabilities. In a non dedicated room (say your living room or bedroom) it will cause some issues as the projector hanging in the Center of the ceiling doesn't really look all that great. But in a dedicated home theater room, these things don't really matter much as you can mount/place the PJ wherever it needs to be without worrying about the aesthetics of the the room as it'll always be dark and no one will be using the room unless the projector is on.

Excellent explanation, nSinghal.

Just to add - DLP projectors usually have a very limited lens shift and zoom is not as big as LCD projectors. It would be good enough to just make adjustments in placement and allow some degree of placement flexibility. I don't think any DLP projector has enough lens shift to all right side up on a shelf mount high on wall. If you mount it on ceiling or high on shelf, you will have to mount it in revert position (upside down) and then make some adjustments for correct screen location. Also, Sim2 are usually long throw projectors, so find out the corresponding screen size for your throw distance.

That Sim2 3chip is a top notch projector. Get the room done and start enjoying it. What are you waiting for? ;)

Thank you both for your inputs. I did get the Sim2 C3X proj with the short throw lens option and also a Stewart Firehawk Grey screen. However, I now have to find someone in Bangalore to help me mount it (safely) from the ceiling and I assume there is a simple setting to invert the image. I am not sure what the throw is but I think I am going to need at least 12 to 14 feet across the room?

Yes, all the projectors have a button to invert the image for ceiling mounted. Some even have a gravity sensor built which automatically adjusts the image.

About the throw, don't worry much about it. Try the image first on a table-top and project it on the wall to get the idea about screen size and throw distance. Then mount it using that info.
