Hi Guys,

I recently purchased Panny 220 and I noticed a change the way model numbers used to be shown on these players.

Earlier it used to be DMP-BDT220AB as an example, however now all I can see is DMP-BDT220. There is a 11 digit Serial Number shown where we used to have DMP-BDT220AB displayed.

Does anyone have an idea on how to derive Model Name if one has to register for paid firmware upgrade.

Also what is the approx donation that one need to pay now?

Thanks,
Vishu

If you imported it from the US, look on the cardboard box where the UPC barcode is printed. Some batches of the US models of the DMP-BDT220 have the extra letter usually P on the box, but the BDP only has DMP-BDT220.

I bought it from Amazon. There is a P written at the back of the player enclosed in a square right below where a sticker for Serial Number is placed. Is it safe to assume that the model name would be DMP-BDT220P?

Looking to go thru paid firmware route and need to be absolutely sure on this.

Do you know that is the cost of upgrade now?

As you indicated, I checked and also see the letter P enclosed with a square right next to the region code. Can't be sure if it's the missing letter from the model name or not.

I am not aware of any other means to determine the full model name, but perhaps you can take a chance going by what other members say regarding their BDT-220 imported from the US. A poll perhaps??

Also, check your PM.

There are two BDT-220's that I find listed on Panasonic US. One is the BDT-220CP Panasonic DMP-BDT220 - NEW! Smart Network 3D Blu-Ray Disc Player DMP-BDT220 - Overview and the other is a BDT-220 Panasonic DMP-BDT220 - NEW! Smart Network 3D Blu-Ray Disc Player DMP-BDT220 - Overview

The two models appear to be the same with the BDT-220CP having an included HDMI cable. I guess the BDT-220 on the Panasonic US website is probably the BDT-220P but can't say for sure.
So did you try firmwareinfo? What letters did you use? I tried with CP but got rejected. I had read some where that CP models were sold in Costco.

I had the box and was therefore able to obtain and provide the model as DMP-BDT220P on the first try itself at firmwareinfo. My BDP is region-free.

The CP models per Panasonic USA website as linked in my original post on this thread, will have a HDMI cable included. If your friend did not get a HDMI cable along with the BDP your BDP could most likely be a DMP-BDT220P. Can't be 100% sure, though. You could try Panasonic USA support to see if they can derive and let you know the model number from the unit serial number. Don't mention that you want to region-free it or anything, though.

How about DVDs from different regions? I have Jodha Akbar that plays on my player (US). I have GodFather trilogy (from UK) that wont play.

Try the following for region locked BDs (and maybe DVDs):

- when player displays region lock error message, press STOP
- screen/TV will display default light blue screen display
- press '1' and 'OK' quickly one after other

Sometimes this trick works and region locked BD starts playing.

Once region-free'd with the firmwareinfo firmware, the BDP will play DVD's, BDP' from any region on using the Option+number codes as provided on the firmwareinfo website. I have noticed that one particular region coded DVD (though none of the BD's) still refused to play after the region-free firmware update. It may have been something weird about the DVD that the BDP did not like, since other FM's have indicated that their region free'd BDP's play everything DVD, BD.

I haven't discovered a disc that won't play - unless the disc itself is bad/corrupt.
