Blu-ray region (which one)

Hi,

My relative is visiting Texas, and I have asked him to buy me a Blu-ray (pack of 3 dvd's) of GODFATHER costing around $27. What should I look out (as to region A, B, C )for on the jacket of the blu-ray disc, so that the discs would play here in India. My blu-ray player is Samsung Model no. BD-E-5500/XL, Marked as Region C for blu-ray, and Region 5 for DVD.

P.S. I saw the snapshot of the discs and details on E-bay, and is marked as Region: A. Will it play here ?

No it will not play in your blu-ray player as it is region locked. Most of the blu-ray/DVDs sold in US are locked for region coding. You need to purchase either region C or DVD region 5 for your player to be compatible or you need a region free blu-ray/dvd player to play all region discs.

Guess you wanted to say pack of 3 Blurays, right?

No, Region A BD won't play in Region C BD player. Go for Region C or All Region BD while getting it from the US. Chances of getting All Region BDs are higher than only Region C.

The Godfather blu-ray sold in the US is 'Region FREE'. You should have no issues in playing it in any player from any region. Well at least not for Region coding regions.

Better check for region coding at the time of purchase. Amazon mentions it as region A.

Check out negative reviews on Amazon. Appears this version needs latest models of Blu ray players or firmware upgrades and some other issues. Better ask the relative to check them out before getting them to India.

"The Godfather collection - Copolla restoration" is region free. 99% of all releases from Paramount Studios are region free. Note that Paramount and Warner Bros. (in that order) were the last to join the Blu-Ray format. They release their BD movies region free (ditto with Universal).

Latest firmware updates for BDP is not a problem. You can get them anywhere as long as player is connected to the net.

For any movies, you may please refer blu-ray.com for information on Region lock issue. They most of the time provides whether the same is region free or not. It is close to accurate.

So far as Kix said, whatever I bought from Warner, Universal and Paramount are found to be region free. May be few latest ones from these 3 major studios may be Region locked.
