If using HDMI and setting audio output to bitstream, the Audio quality will depend upon the source. HDMI is best for audio quality and one should not use anything else in these days, especially for video.

True. But regarding second point, I have seen heaven and earth difference between sony s360 and denon bdp 2012 when bitstreaming to the same AVR.
It is all in how good the synchronization hardware in the bdp.
That is why we see a quantum leap between a budget bdp and a high end bdp w.r.t both picture and sound.

You must be right, if you have experience something like that. Although I wonder why bitstream output via HDMI should make any difference - because it is just read and send. With the digital data in HDMI and the checksum and balances, ideally it should make no difference (ideally again ). The difference could be in the transport and analogue audio.
