Oppo 95/105 - India dealers?

Is there any India distributor/ dealer who represents/supplies Oppo to purchase BDP 95/105? Direct importing seems ridiculously expensive!

As @NatureLover mentioned avenue sound seems to have it. One of our FM's who had bought from avenue sound recently sold it here

Tried HTS - they would get back with their 'best' prices.
Avenue Sound -spoke/ texted them couple of times already - surprisingly no response since 2 weeks!

There shouldn't be an issue if you have region free/all region disc.You can add a mod kit later though.

Thanks! I have a mix of discs(from amazon.com/uk). I do have a region free Oppo 83 which does its job well.

I am about to set up a dedicated HT setup in my basement so was wondering if I should buy the next Oppo locally or get it from US.

How easy is it to add mod kit - soldering skills, et all?

Both types are available form indian dealers - locked and region free. The free one ofcourse comes at higher price.

For DVDs Oppo is region free . even if not, it can be easily made in seconds. Just a matter of a 2 second free software (u ll get by googling) download and playing it via CD on the BDP.

For Blu Rays two types of mods are available - 1) Soldering (Costly) in which no Code input from remote is required and will permanently be region free. 2) other one (Less costly) a simple hardware kit connection to player -can be easily done by user also which will need a code every time u wanna change region.

Avenue sound sells both types of Oppo players and makes both kinds of region free mods on request.

We do have the option of getting region free -BD/DVD players from Indian dealers - they cost about 10-12K additional.

Overall it makes more sense to personally get it from US as the indian price is a cool $400-500 more (including sea way shipping, customs, margin..etc.)

Glad u asked. U r probably asking the most right and latest person in this regard I mentioned the same to kvm by pm and repasting my experience here:

I got my region locked BDP-103 3 days back from Avenue sound for final price 35,000 paid at their Mumbai store. The US price of 499 USD which today translates to roughly 33,000, I really got a great deal. But important thing to note is I had paid some 3-4 months back when rupee had not depreciated so much. So buyer today may have to face some impact. Secondly I bought the region A locked player as all my BDs are USA imported only. Lastly, I had to wait for 3 months as the package was coming via sea way (which saved me the huge customs duty) as a part of a big lot for the dealer which takes time. So depending on model, region free requirement, Shipment method of dealer, Forex and time of payment, today's deal terms might differ.

Like Kvm said above, it might go 8-10k extra for region free mod. Check with Ashish at avenue sound. They are excellent and very professional at written communications. I didnt have to make a single phone call in my entire deal process.

You can rip other region movies on Hard disc and oppo can read them easily.
Some of mod kits are without soldering.Just press fit.

I have never ripped the BD's as of yet. Will probably get to it sometime soon. Thanks for the ebay link. Looks kinda interesting but costly! Let's see how it goes. Will keep you posted. Thanks!

Even considering $$ appreciation (close to 10% appreciation past 5 months) and seaway shipping, which obviously will be far less than FedEx, and customs - the INR pricing should not be too high!

Thanks to @htfan17, got in touch with Ashish of avenuesound and he has provided me with quotes for Oppo 103/103D with and without zone free modification.

I find the rates to be good and the sweetness is enhanced because he said he will be able to provide warranty.

As of now, I am leaning towards Oppo 103D. Will keep you guys posted hyeah:

One small question regarding CINAVIA. If I am right, mkv's and other ripped stuff should play fine and cinavia kicks in only if we try to play replicated BD's, am I right?

Yes - per the reviews I have been reading, currently cinavia kicks-in for disc playback and not for MKV but one cannot be sure if the same would be retained for long!

BTW, even I have been tilting towards 103 for its excellent video processing abilities coupled with warmer sound signature for 2ch stereo o/p. What specific advantages one would get with 103D over 103?

The only other(but significant) difference is that, the 103D has Darbee video processing capabilty. In my opinion this is significanct and I just ordered a region free version of 103D today :licklips: !!!
