Advise for decent blue-ray player

Hi,

I am looking for the Blu-ray player with with features such as internet connectivity (mainly youtube) and video up scaling. My budget is around 6K

It should be able to play contents from VCD/DVD discs, copied blue-ray disc, USB and external HDD (upto 1TB) and should also have subtitles support.

Please advise the player model number which would be better choice in terms of features, formats ( for movies and picture), support etc. ?

Possibility to make player region-free would be extra advantage.

I have two blu-ray players and none of them play a VCD. Best is to do a test in the stores. For the budget you mention, my guess it is short by at least 2K. At 8K you can think of Samsung 5500 (or something) or Sony BDP5100.

Please note that blu-ray players are region locked for the region in which they are sold. Now-a-days, making a player region free is almost next to impossible. But you can buy a modded region-free player from various web sites that sell them. Refer this thread: The Quest for a Region-Free Blu-Ray Player.

as just4kix, mentioned yo need to scale you budget atlest by 2-4K for all those features.
subtitles support -- is rare, but can be remuxed easily using a small GPL tool.
for region free refer to thread pointed by just4kix, some companies player seems to be unlocked by default, other can be easily unlocked, samsung & sony hacks are _not_ available in abundant.

For 6k, you would get the sony bdp-s1100 which plays VCD too and has a LAN connectivity.

Well sony s4100 is a good choice, few people on the forum have it. It was given free along with sony tv's under an offer. Also was sold on amazon for 8.8k. The reviews are good and it gets the job done.
