Acer H5370BD - Impressions

H5370BD owners - few queries.
1, Are you using a dedicated UPS for this, or will the home inverter suffice?
2, Can I place this on a wall shelf, 11 ft from the wall and then adjust the image vertically to fit the opposite wall? Just curious, since many of similar setups are ceiling mounted, which will keep the projector inverted, but I may have to place it on top of a book shelf 7 ft from floor, which will sit like how you place it on top of the table.
3, Any issues in HDMI input identification, if I use an 8 m HDMI cable. Some forums were discussing about some HDMI issues when they used longer HDMI cables.
4, Is the power supply built in, or does it have an external power brick? I have not seen an external one in reviews, but just to confirm.
5, Does it have auto adjustment, if you are projecting to a colored wall?
6, Can I put it inside a cabinet with glass door and provide a small cabinet fan for ventilation? Will it help, as I am bit worried about dust as my HT room is not air conditioned, and still am using the fan which is causing small amount of dust to get accumulated in my receiver, BR player etc. Now I am covering them with small cloth when not in use.

I am not using any of them,so let others answer.

Yes its basically both way, table top or wall mounting. Its has feet correction too.

No issues if you get good high speed HDMI cables.I am using HDMI coupler to use PJ and it plays 3D perfectly without issue.
4, Is the power supply built in, or does it have an external power brick? I have not seen an external one in reviews, but just to confirm.
It has universal power supply in built. So can be used with 240V or 110V.
5, Does it have auto adjustment, if you are projecting to a colored wall?
You can select wall color from setup menu.

It needs space to avoid fan failure. So cabinet can be made customized so that during operation, side and top should be kept cool.

Thanks @spirovious, you helped me to clear lot of doubts. On query #2, I am planning to use it as table top from 7 - 8 ft ht and need to project it downwards like a ceiling mount PJ. The difference is that it will sit straight in this case, whereas ceiling mounted one will be inverted. Will it work?

You can keep it upside down on surface. You can adjust the level by adding extra packing underneath to match it perfect on wall.

I need a projector that i can place on rear wall 15 feet from the screen for 120ft screen. It will be placed 6-7 feet from the floor, which is probably 1-2ft from top edge of the screen.

I check the projectorcentral.com distance calculator and its works well. Since this projector doesn't have vertical lens shift will the placement help?

Can anyone who has a good experience with this projector Acer H5370BD can tell me if this can be replaced as a regular TV. I am planning to purchase a 42" LED, but the prices for the same are very much more than this projector, and I can probably can have a size much more than 42" (60" is what I am looking for). But with a Lumens of 2500, I just wonder how would this perform under a regular incandescent tube/cfl, we have in our rooms.

Plus as a regular TV its gonna be used much more than an avg projector, so lamp life and cost will also play a role.

Experts love to have an opinion here ....

Guys, one of my cousins friend "might" get the projector from US, but since the original packaging is quite heavy (9 lbs) , he might get rid of the packing and put the projector in his check-in baggage. I am worried if this might damage the projector. Any thoughts. Alternatively he can pay for the extra baggage ie. for the 9 lbs which might come to around 50$ , what should i do.. Please suggest

I think he can stuff the projector along with its thermocoal as is in checkin baggage or stuff it around cloths tightly so that it wont move in any direction should be fine.

Leo , my projector was carried by a friend and another colleague's projector was carried by his sis. however the thumb rule of getting anything from outside india is you dumb the packaging. declare it as used.

carry it in checkin- luggage. its small and light-weight and wont do any damage to the PJ unless it gets a sudden surge/shock or dropped off which might damage the internals.

no need to pay extra . for same 50$ get 2 set of 3D glasses and you are good.

no need to stuff the PJ into anything. the projector comes with a fabric cloth bag for carrying it easily. just make sure to inform to keep the lens side up.
it can be put in the check-in luggage as it is.

My only worry is the way in which check-in baggages are handled in airports. They are literally thrown especially when they are loaded and unloaded from the conveyor belts..

Hi Guys,

Planning to get the Acer H5370BD from US through a friend. Would be of great help if these 3 questions regardinng this PJ can be answered:-

1) In this budget (Around $450 from Amazon/Ebay), is there a better PJ which can be looked at....or this is fine to go. I am ok with this PJ and with 720p.....But still, Is there a chance to get a Full HD PJ in this budget?

2) I am planning to mount it on the ceiling. I already have a wooden cabinet box made up on the ceiling. Is it necessary to get a Mounting unit still?

3) I already have Passive 3D Glasses got with a Sony TV purchase. Will that work fine with this PJ or do i need separate glasses.

Yesterday I had a bad time for a while. My system stopped suddenly just after 10 mins of movie.First I thought that AVR went into protection (which has never gone till date). In fact yes, standby mode LED also was off. Then found PJ was turned of too.Saw indicator,it was showing "LAMP" led glowing.I had almost Heart stop by imaging "Fan Failure".

Just turned off main supply and waited for few mins. Then turned on and to my luck the indicator on PJ went.It started working as earlier.I turned Living room fan little faster and watched full movie without issue for next 2hrs.:yahoo:

So friends, summer has started and keep your PJ cool. That could be the only reason for stopping system.

Yes that is true, during one of my visits I lost my laptop screen coz of this, but not to raise to many alarms, that was mostly because of me not wrapping the product properly and stuffing it well protected between the clothes. When that was done I never had to face any issue.

You can also make the baggage marked and labelled "Fragile" for an extra cost if one is too nervous and wants to be absolutely sure

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, will pass it on. If everything works out as planned the PJ should be arriving in Bangalore on the 17th. I stay in Hyderabad, so need to find someone to get it which would be relatively easy. :ohyeah:

Will any body have views on the below queries....posting again.

H6510BD FHD 3D from Acer is available for 700USD. Its tempting me a lot since the specs are too good, though its almost 250$ above H5370BD. Anyone with exposure to that baby? Very good reviews from avsforums.
