Do I really need a HDMI ARC or Optical?

Hello All,

I need your help in understanding some basic things about setting up a home theater system.

I've a Philips HD ready tv which has two HDMI ports. I recently bought a Sony BDV E4100 Bluray HTS. I also have Tata Sky HD in my house. I'll upgrade the TV but right now I desperately want to feel the 5.1 audio coming from Tata Sky though my new HTS. How do I go about doing that?

Don't please say that it's not possible with a tv without HDMI ARC and Optical :sad:

I don't use Tata Sky but let's try to figure out.....I read the specs of the HTS

BDV-E4100 | Home Theatre | Sony IN

It has optical in so if the Tata Sky has an Optical out....you can pass that audio to the HTS.

HDMI out from Tata Sky will continue to be the same to the Philips TV...

You would need to see the settings on the Tata Sky box and ensure that the Audio OUT is enabled for the optical port.

Try this....hopefully if the settings are put appropriately...your TV should continue the same way thru HDMI and additional audio output via Optical will feed to the HTS

Tatasky HD has optical out

The only way you can get audio from your Sony is if your set top box has an optical out. Post a pic of your setop box connectors.

There are some HD boxes that have an optical out, so if yours doesnt have, get it replaced with a box that has. Yes, Tata Sky will do it. Airtel does it for sure. I am on my third boxhyeah:.
