1 tonne split airconditioner - need suggestions

I have been following this Split AC thread silently. Like many in this forum, I too was undecided between, SAMSUNGs (with built-in-stabilizer), LG, Panasonic, Hitachi and Carrier. My budget was around 22K 25K for a 1.0 ton 5 star rated AC. Was seriously considering the Samsung 1.0 ton (with built-in-stabilizer) 5 star rated AC, but it was out of stock at Reliance Digital.

Thereafter, due to the sheer volume of recommendations that I got, supporting the build quality of Hitachi compressors, I decided to increase my budget to 32K and get the Hitachi split AC. We finally decide to go in for the HITACHI ACE CUTOUT, RAC014HQDP 1.2 ton, 5 star rated AC unit, for our apartment in Hyderabad, which is west facing and gets really warm in summer months. Installation was free but had to pay separately for stabilizer.

Reliance Digital (Banjara Hills) delivery was spot on and the AC arrived the same day. Both units (Indoor & Outdoor) were brand new with manufactured date as April 2010. The Reliance Digital technician came the next day and completed the installation in 2 hours.

He gave us a quick demo after installation. As he turned on the power button on the remote, voila, within minutes our 16x12 room had cooled! We keep the fan on, in minimum position, for even cooling of the room.

The Hitachi RAC014HQDP 1.2 ton AC is very silent. The indoor unit is not at all fancy; neither does it have any bells and whistles like a display window, digital display or a fancy LED light. It also does not have any fancy features like auto-cleaning, ECO Patrol etc. It is a very simple and plain design. The outdoor unit is also very silent and quality of material used appears to be very good. The remote is also nothing too fancy. It has all the basic functions and a backlight. In all, the build quality of the Hitachi unit is very good and the cooling is very efficient for the warm Hyderabad summer.

Hello, it is summer time coming again, therefore instead of starting a new thread thought of continuing this thread.
I have a room size of 12*10*11. I think 1 ton split ac will suffice. Will go for a 5 star one. But will u pls give suggestion on choosing model. I have shortlisted hitachi or LG. but hitachi I think does not have 1 ton model (don't know why).
Any other company you want to suggest?
Any suggestion of your will be of much help.

Thanks

Will go for a 5 star one.

Alto I believe it is time to move to Inverter air conditioners. With high end 5 star non Inverters being the same price of Inverters, they do not cut the corners any more.

With an INR 31~32K budget you will easily have 1.1 ton Inverter in India. Best of luck.:)

thanks rishiguru for ur reply...which inverter model do u prefer?

What is your budget?

If you are looking for a value for money Inverter AC then Sharps are excellent. If you want to have industries best, money no bar, then Mitsubishi Heavy Industries SRK-ZJX series.

Let me know if you need more info on them.

budget is 30-35, what is about Hitachi 5 star, but lots of bad complaints about Hitachi customer care? what is the opinion about it from HF members? Hitachi does not have 1 ton though, it is 1.2.

It seems you are a Hitachi fanatic. Their reputation is in making excellent non-Inverter ACs having exuberant prices. As far as I know in India they used to make only one Inverter Ac of 1.5 Ton category which was discontinued later due to huge problems they faced due to some faulty design.

Here is a link : HITACHI ITEC INVERTER AC - POOR PRODUCT QUALITY AND SERVICE

Truly speaking standing in the year 2013 I will not even look at non-Inverter ACs.

I have shortlisted hitachi or LG.

If I was you I would have definitely gone for LG inverters. LG makes some of the best inverter ACs in the world.

Best of luck!!!

My friend has a Videocon .75 ton ac in his west facing 10x12 bedroom in Cochin. I have NEVER seen any ac cool the way that lil thing did in my life!

My Room is 13 ft X 13 ft X 11 ft (height) with 5 ft x 4 ft window facing the west. It has bedroom one CFL light & does not have anything else such as a computer.

All the AC load calculation tables and software on the internet (from western countries) suggest that 0.75 ton (9000 BTU) is sufficient. However the AC dealers here are telling me that I need a 1.0 ton (12000 BTU) unit. Are they trying to sell me a more powerful unit than what I really need?

The main problem installing a more powerful AC unit is the following:
1) Compressor will have more start and stop cycles (it will start & cool & stop very quickly due to the excess cooling power).
2) It consumes a lot more power for the compressor to start and start cooling than to run and maintain cooling (this is why the inverter AC with direct currently variable speed motor is more energy efficient because the compressor runs continuously at variable speed when compared to the traditional start and stop cycle AC.
3) If the more powerful AC runs only for a short period of time it will cool the rum but will not remove all the humidity
4) More start and stop cycles means more wear & tear for the AC
5) Unnecessary higher initial cost

My question to the Experts in this forum is

A) Do I really need a 1.0 ton ac for my 13 ft X 13 ft X 11 ft or will a 0.75 ton (9000 BTU) AC be sufficient?
B) Why are the online AC load calculation tables and software giving a much lower load requirement than the local AC technicians?

Thank you very much for your feedback.
