Hi Guys/Gals,

I am getting a year old Marantz PM6003 for 15K. Does the price seem all right?

Plan to pair it with MA Bronze BX2 (29K in Bangalore). Wharfedale 10.2 s are a 22K, is the additional 7K justifiable for the kind of music i listen to.

I'm mostly into Jazz and Classic Rock.

Thanks,

Do not know about PM6003, but I had an extensive experience with its bigger brother PM7004. Excellent stereo amp to say the least but costs a lot more.

Marantz have this warm & melodious sound signature which you will instantly fall in love with. The amp being just a year old and 60 watts @ 4 ohms per channel is a good spec. At 15K you can go for it.

Go for good bookshelves having nominal impedance of 4 ohms since the amp will only pump 45 watts @ 8 ohms. Though 40 watts is lot of power in a small room.:D

Best of luck!!!

I use pm6002 and I love it. Got it brand new 6 months back. For 16.5k.
So 15k for 6003 seems quite alright.
Consider the following points.

Was the amp opened any time for any reason?
How was it used/abused?
Is it used by a person who loved it?
How s the cosmetic condition ?

A lot depends on these points.
Definitely get an audition before you buy.

thnx guys.

any ideas about the speakers?

wharfedale 10.2 groups buy available at 18.3 vs monitor audio bx2 at 29 (audio planet bangalore)

what additional performance will i get with the latter at an additional 10K? with pm6003?

Cant help you in this dept. I am spoiled by my Open baffle speakers.
The sound is quite different from "boxed" speakers. I am in love with this design.

I have heard wharf 10.2. They sounded quite good. I have not heard the Monitor Audio.
If you can go DIY Way and have enough space, go for open baffles. You are welcome if you need an audition.

Hi Jaudere,

Congratulations! Have you completed your DIY speakers? Are they up and running? Your listening impressions? Will you guide others in building the same?

Regards.

Yes. The speakers are complete. I am enjoying them very much. I have posted pics in my thread. Right now I am listening to Neil Diamond's "Play me" while writing.
They are great all rounders. (The mild weakness in bass is tackled by using the "loudness" switch on my amp. ). The vocals, percussion, strings ,everything is superb.
However it is my baby and I may be biased. So i would like
Someone experienced to have an audition.
Now I have started in believing that "good things are really simple" but to realize that simple things are very good, you have to go through the complicated things first.
Just as I am finishing this post, Anoushka Shankar's "Beloved" has started. Very soothing indeed.

Checked your pics.. Some neat work there. though i don't know how to make head or tails out of the setup. don't think i have the patience or time to DIY.

Will prolly get the 10.2s, keep the additional 10K saved from bx2s for a used dacmagic in the future.

I hope you checked the right thread and right pictures. Go through the thread "planning open baffles with all ahuja components". Check page 3 and 4.
The plan is simple. It will get going in 2 days flat(provided you get a good carpenter).

Anyway the wharfs will prove a good starting point.
Stick to something usual till you understand your music taste properly. Then venture into more exciting territory.

listen to both - the wharfies and bx2 with the 6003 before you take a call. My guess is the BX2 should sound better. Invest in better speakers.

I was afraid someone would come and say exactly that and change my mind. I went to sleep thinking of placing the order online, first thing today. Now i need to lug the amp to a couple of dealers now.

Hi xoceter,

The price of PM6003 seems OK, but check the cosmetic condition & performance. As for the speakers I suggest you Audition it with MS Aviano-1/2 also before you take a call. They sound very neutral, and are a good match for the Marantz.

Just my Rs.2/-.

Thanks,

15k for PM6003, I would say go for it. It's a good price as new one is out of stock and due to dollar fluctuations prices of marantz amps have been increased. But, also consider the points mentioned by other members before buying an old one.

MA Bronze BX2 are good speakers. MA and Marantz combination is a musical one. I recently bought PM5004 marantz amp and Monitro Audio M2 speakers as my budget was low. Initially I had also planned for PM6003 and MA BX2.

You can also check prices of Monitor Audio speakers from The Audio People, Chennai Welcome to The Audio People : Chennai Premiere high - end hi-fi Shop. They are also authorized dealers of monitor audio. I got my M2 speakers from them. Prices are very competetive.

How much did you pay for a pair of M2s? I assume you auditioned M2 as well as BX2. Does the price difference warranty the higher end since i am pretty new to this..

My experience of HQ sound is a Cowon S9 playing a 320 kbps mp3 through Bose Quiet Comfort.

If your budget is close to 25k , I'd suggest you to audition PSB image B6 and Paradigm Titan monitor v6.

Last weekend I was listening to BB king and other artists, really felt happy for buying paradigms. :)

Wharfedale Linton Heritage Speakers in Walnut finish at a Special Offer Price. BUY now before the price increase.
