1 yr old Used marantz pm6003 price?

If your budget is close to 25k , I'd suggest you to audition PSB image B6 and Paradigm Titan monitor v6.

Last weekend I was listening to BB king and other artists, really felt happy for buying paradigms. :)

More options....:)

Thanks @ Murali for the Dealer info

Awesome support from the Forum.

How much did you pay for a pair of M2s? I assume you auditioned M2 as well as BX2. Does the price difference warranty the higher end since i am pretty new to this..Quiet Comfort.

I bought Monitor Audio M2 speakers after reading reviews at this forum and AV Max Review December 2010. I paid Rs.13.5k for these speakers. Main reason for buying M2 was that my budget was limited and secondly I was new to Hifi setup. So I started my Hifi journey with M2. Will upgrade my setup later on...

If your budget permits, I would say go with BX2. Recommending only on the basis of reviews available on the net and this forum.

xoceter,

+1 to Jitender. Dont look at too many options for the PM6003. If funds are OK.. plump for the BX2.

This is a good combo.

The best speakers in bookshelves till now(when paired with pm6003) were Paradigm Studio 10. Superb sound. It really touched my heart. Bit costly. 40k. Smaller in size than wharf 10.2 and much more refined sound than 10.2.

Of course there must be better speakers out there. My audition experience is limited.

Ok here's the summary based on all your's suggestions. I feel that this list should be enough for me to start auditioning bookshelves.

Thanks for putting it in tabular form. It is very helpful.

By the way i didnt know that paradigm studio 10 go down only upto 62hz. I think this proves again that 'on paper specs' can be totally mileading. If you see in the list, the paradigm studio 10 is one of the weakest in bass. However the actual audition experience was the most enjoyable. I never felt that it lacked anything in bass for any kind of music.
Wharf 9.1 seems better in bass on paper but in actual comparison it was very thin sounding. Of course the cost difference is huge.

I liked Norge millenium MK2 Much more than Image B6. It goes down to 55hz on paper but actually sounds much more 'complete'. Cost 13k! But poor brand value and resale price.

the PSB Image B6 goes down to 45hz. Many people like it but I did not like it . It sounded bit weak on bass to me . The huge showroom of Lakozy could be the culprit. The PSB Signature model which I really liked was costing 1.8 lac :(

So use this list as starting point only AND not for decision making. Audition is the ultimate test.

well so far music ranch and audio planet has accepted my proposal of hooking up my mp6003 for test/audition/demo, going there tomorrow. don't know whether pro-fx will allow this, but i haven't asked them yet.

xoceter,

excel sheets help till a point.. beyond that its your ears..

when you audition.. dont get taken in by the data on excel sheets.. play it by the ear and you will enjoy for long time..

Just auditioned kef q300s and q100s, frankly i could not find much difference between them. Mind you this was my first audition ... ever... I always have been a cowon s9 + headphones guy.

Felt pretty happy with the punchy bass on both, more with the Q300s obviously. Slightly high on the treble - high frequency - sharp, but i kinda liked it.

KEFQ300s - 30.3K, when asked for the best price, no further bargaining, i am pretty bad at it anyways (original MRP quoted - 33K)
KEFQ100s - 25K (MRP-27K).

I of course showed them the excel sheet out of my laptop, it was the very first thing i did when i entered the showroom. Made it clear that i understand discounts more than hi-fi jargon.

Monitor Audio Bronze BX2s are quoted in Bangalore at 29K without any possibility of discounts/offers - due to high demand, dollar appreciation etc.

Q300s cost around 420 pounds, compared to BX2s which are 230 pounds (both on Ebay UK). More over looks like KEFs are considered to be placed a little higher than BX2s, in terms of product placement and price segment.

However in Bangalore that translates to just 1K difference, great job Pro Fx.

Also auditioned - Avatar HD - 7.1 with KEF Home theatre - 3.5 lacs with Denon Receiver - 59K and Polk Subwoofer. Seemed ok.:o

More auditions to come...

Just wanted to update my 6 month old search for an entry level Hifi system. Thanks to every one who contributed to this thread and helped me in my journey.

My set up finally turned out to be:

1. Marantz PM6003 - used 1 yr - 15K
2. KEF Q300 - used 1 yr - 14K (Audition everything from KEF, to MA, Boston Acoustics, PSB B6, Paradigm Titan - but 14K price trumped everything ;-) ...)
3. Sad Transport - Cowon S9 with 3.5 mm to component cable - spent 7K on them in 2008 - plays FLAC and some .APE files - Will get a music streamer 2 when in the US.
4. Looking for a cheap but heavy (read - aesthetics does not matter) stands

Over all spend - 29K + (7K for the cowon s9) - already way over my initial budget, but i don't care now :-D.

Thanks a lot guys.

Mods may close this thread.

xoceter,

take 1 final fling - try to get a used marantz CDP and you would be done with your stereo setup.

For stands - please contact magma on this forum - he makes good ones and maybe you can have a good deal from him. The construction quality of his stands is good too.

Funding and timing - is a personal matter and you are the best judge of it.

mpw

Thanks mpw, actually the SQ from a FLAC playing on a cowon s9 player is not too bad. I was hoping to go the net-book + USB DAC way, especially since i have a Samsung NC-10.

What are your views on HRT Music Streamer 2+ and Music Fidelity V-DAC-2?

Marantz CD6003 retails for almost 29K in Bangalore, and its a totally different proposition now, to search for a used one in the 14k range. It's not that i can't buy a new one, it's something i can't afford, if u know what i mean.
