100 hours on Ayon CD1.......

Thanks Asit da for the kind words .

Yes this CDP has changed the system completely. Thanks to Sridhar and Cranky who suggested for this. This was a very quick decision when I came to know ( from Tharuns thread on his CDP upgrade) about this piece being sold. Thanks to Samir kumar and one of my best childhood freind who arragnged the safe transport of it.The pleasure in beyond mesurement. I had a real tough time on budget approval from the home minister. However all that had a very happy ending.

I was looking for a pre amp.At that time Audio_engnr ( who also parised about ayon cd 1 in that thread ) and cranky suggested for passive. Cranky gave one of his volume pot to use temporarily. After hearing the improvement from a simple volume pot I felt ( rightly or wrongly) if I have good passive (not of high budget ) and a very good source , my system will be complete. Now I am satisfied . For the moment I have deffered the passive plan, will do when further budget permits. But the destiny has been fixed.

One again thanks to cranky , Asit and Arup ( not a member of the forum) who came sunday evening for listening.

Shanti

I will definetly post some pictures.

Regards

Hi Pratim
thanks for the post, I am glad it worked out well for you. Many people underestimate the value of a good/equivalent source.
The Ayon CDP should serve you well even if you were to upgrade other components in your system.
Interestingly, a couple of us will be comparing the Reimyo to the Ayon CDP this weekend, will post my opnions :)

cheers
Sridhar

Hi
We will do this both with the Ayon as CDP and with the Ayon as a DAC. I want to ideally do this with a top notch transport which someone I know has, however finding a time which will work for him is  else it will be limited to a simple transport (at another persons place) with Ayon as DAC. We will use an RTA to set the volume, lets see how close we can get.

cheers

Hi Sridhar

Did you take a look at the SL Pics, posted on Pg-3? If am not mistaken, that's the amp you've heard at Klaus's place. How do you like the -scope results?

regards
Arup

are you sure you didnt get creative with photoshop? :D
I dont think Klaus had the 400's when I visited him, I believe it was the 300s or some upgraded/modded version of it

cheers

Yes, there are some cosmetic changes as well. True balanced is available in CD-2. CD-1s onwards features variable volume control.
CD-07 now becomes the entry level CDP with the ability to take in USB

cheers

And with analog output stages delivering high output in the tune of 4 volts and more, nothing like using the finest Passive pre to hookup to the power amp of your choice!

I am quite moved by the CD-5 - at least on paper! :)
The biggest difference in there seems to be the transport (CDPro2 from Philips Netherlands)
But then - its $9500

Their flagship monoblock amps look lethal - @ 140 watts in Class-A and very well made it seems!

Hi Audio_engr
They sure look well made and the specs are also mind blowing but if i am not wrong the top of the line monoblock is around 24000 USD. Agreed quality comes at a price but..

Hi Audio Engr

I too have been contemplating about the Ayon CD5. Will probably hear it next time i go abroad and then take a call.

CD-5 will be cheaper here, can promise you that :D

where did you see a price of $24K?

thanks

Hi Audio Engr

When Asit had come, the power cords had not opened up. Now its way better. It was a pleasure having Asit over. If you ever to come to Mumbai do drop in.

I have heard the Ayon CD1 and thought it was very good for the price. I am sure the CD5 will be stellar. The Esoteric rig is very nice. It really pulls out the information. More importantly its build like a tank and not given me any problems. Being in India, i somehow value reliability a lot. In fact if there is one cd player i want more than the Esoteric, it is definitely the Zanden. I believe there is a new single box cd player in the pipeline.

Even the Hong Kong guys are into very high end stuff. Someone was telling me so was Taiwan

Hi Audio Engr

I believe the latest toy in HK is a power conditioner by Tripoint. Costs US $35000. Just this power conditioner alone is not enough. So these guys buy something called Troy again from Tripoint which cleans up ground noises. And that costs US $ 8000. I, like an idiot, had sometime back asked one of these HK audiophiles to suggest a power conditioner. He suggested a Wavac. When i checked the price, i did a double take. It was US $ 17000. As you rightly mentioned, these guys in HK are from a different planet.

Congratulations ! :clapping:

Well done;

Can you post some pics ?
Would be nice to see.
I hold the Ayon products in high regard !

Here is the picture of Ayon CD 1 . Picture of my set up is also attached . Excuse the furniture ( except the speaker stands ) . Arup was with camera.

An update - Today I purchased a Nakamichi BX 300 Tape Deck to enjoy my Cassetes .

Except the passive my set up is ready. Now only listening to music ....

Enjoy
Pratim

Sounds good too - Gerard makes nice electronics !
Heard many of the models @ different shows.
I think Ayon is a 'better' maker of electronics than speakers.
His 'ex' partner - make great speakers. Concensus Audio is the new name.

Sir,

I stay in Mumbai.
Would love to listen...
If it is possible ?
As per your convenience.
You may take my ref from Sridhar [if the need be]

It would be an honour...

Thanks,

Even the Hong Kong guys are into very high end stuff. Someone was telling me so was Taiwan

The new 'kid on the block' is China - East.

Yes, Taipei has a great show - did visit it.
The High End Stores too are really hi-end.
The public is very quality concious.
It is the only country where I actually met ladies that came to a show
with their own PL's to listen !! Very serious - audio is in Taiwan.

The HK market seems to be 'saturated'
It only thrives on sales to China.

The next good show to go to is in China - Guangzhau [my spellings are poor] !!

The good thing in HK is that the entire [well almost] audio market is in 1 building in Central - Duddle Street. So if you take 'appointments' and go, a lot of demo can happen in 2 days !!
