100 hours on Ayon CD1.......

hehe! Have heard that name too and supposed to do excellent work! :)

Mr. Feteke's speakers were driven by Valvet [German] & was the 2nd best sound for me in Munich last year @ Flemings Hotel - not @ MOC - they take part in Hi Fi Deluxe.

But, I find the prices of Concensus speakers to be 'outrageous' !!

The prices are available on the US Dealers Web Site - I think or on Audiogon.

Had suggested them to a friend in Mumbai - but later we settled for KK from Germany.

Here is the picture of Ayon CD 1 . Picture of my set up is also attached . Excuse the furniture ( except the speaker stands ) . Arup was with camera.

An update - Today I purchased a Nakamichi BX 300 Tape Deck to enjoy my Cassetes .

Except the passive my set up is ready. Now only listening to music ....

Enjoy

Congrats ! it must be really great system. If you can please do try some form of an Isolation to your CDP..ideally a very heavy base (Granite/Marble etc) on the table and then some form of Suspension like Cut Squash Balls above it over which you rest the CDP.

Hi Sidvee

At present there is no preamp. I am using a simple attenuator that is ditecly connected to source an power amp. There is no chasis even. This is a temporary one borrowed from Cranky.

Thanks Arj

Yes those fine tuning I will do one by one.

Thanks

Hi Guys,

This may be a silly question.

Is it worth buying a CD player like Ayon for my set up which is Harman Kardon ARV 460 and Polk Tsi 400.

Currently I have Sony blu ray player, which I feel is the weak link in my system so looking at upgrading my CDP. I was looking at oppo 95, but after looking at Ayon CDP, I am very keen on this but just wondering if this CDP would make my AVR and speakers a weak link !.

Please advise.

Thanks,
Sunder.

Too expensive for AV gear. Better go for something like Marantz CD6004 or that range.

95 is a great player and got good reviews in terms of audio quality.. it cost almost the price of the tsi 400.

see if you can get to have a demo who own it.. else as suggested you can also look for a standalone cd player if music is the only requirement.

Man, if you have the budget, why not buy it?
I am sure you will upgrade soon the other things also. It might be one of the best deals passing by.

But I think it would be your AVR that is the weakest link - since your br is sending digital signals via hdmi to it. And the speakers to a great extent.

Bumping a really old thread with some interesting info.

Have been trying out different opamp chips in the buffer stage of the cd1s. Tried opa2604 and lm4562 so far instead of the stock opa2134. The lm4562 is a massive massive improvement at least in my setup. The sound is way more neutral and the bit of darkness many complained about is gone. Instruments are way more delicate. Voices feel cleaner and more natural. Definitely worth the 10 dollars that the pair cost me.

The much more expensive Burson opamp is another option if you plan to keep the unit. I was more than happy when I replaced the stock modules on my Music Hall DAC with the Bursons.

How about linuxguru's opamps? I think he has three flavours. I didn't try it for replacing the stock OPA2134 on a DIY phonostage, because of cost factor (nearly as much as the cost of the kit, IIRC). But for a high end CDP, it may be well worth the price.
