Hi,

I am looking for the 32/40 LED TVs. Am having couple of queries on the choices

- which brand is preferred (samsung/lg/sony)? and please share the model numbers which are doing good
- in samsung am looking for ua32/40eh5000? Have anybody bought these models please share your feedback and price details
- what is the difference between led tv and slim led tv? which one is better to go?
- heard led tv is same as lcd tv except the edge led, if that is the case why led tv is costlier than lcd tv?
- is it better to buy the existing smart tvs (I feel they are having limited features and need to take more time to stable on this area).

Please share your thought on this.

Hi,

- which brand is preferred (samsung/lg/sony)? and please share the model numbers which are doing good

All three brands - Sony/Samsung/LG are equally good or bad. Basically 90% depends upon the panel and panels are sourced from the same 6 or 7 OEM's in the world. Actually Sony does not even manufacture the panels.

DisplaySearch Indicates 23% of LCD TVs Outsourced in Q3'07; TPV and Proview are Top 2 OEMs - DisplaySearch

Basically, Sony will be better in one class, Samsung in another and LG in yet another. I guess this answer does not clear your doubt. But the fact is you cannot go wrong with either. You may also add Panasonic to the list.

Unless budget is a constraint, I would tend to look as Samsung 6 Series and above, Sony HX 750 and above and LG LM 6200 series and above. Panasonic is better known for plasma's but if it is LED you are looking at it should be E5 and above.

- what is the difference between led tv and slim led tv? which one is better to go?

Slim LED TVs, as the name suggests, have very small depth and thin bezel or frame. From the front, the panel looks like there is no border at all. From the side, the depth is just a few mm. This kind of TV gives a feeling of going deep into the environment. Different makers call it via different name, Sony call this "the monolith look", LG call this "Cinema 3D", etc. To own this "sexy look" TV, you pay a lot.

- heard led tv is same as lcd tv except the edge led, if that is the case why led tv is costlier than lcd tv?

Yes. The technology is newer and costlier to make such TVs but that is just a small aspect. LED TVs will also yield better performance. But LCD can also give similar performance as underlying it is the still LCD panel. The enhancements are being brought into the LED range only. But mostly it is all hype factor that makes LED costlier than LCD.

Smart TV is all a load of bull crap. One should buy TV for its image quality. You will use the Smart features maybe once in a month. Leave the browsing, YouTube, facebook, skype, etc. to the PC.

Hi

thanks for the detailed reply. I am constrained to my budget (30-40K) for 32'' and (40-50K) for 40''. So I have selected samsung ua32/40eh5000 model which fits in this category.

If you have any other model for suggestion for this category please share the details for the same.

I am having couple of queries on this model,
- samsung claim it as "LED TV" (in show room they are saying backlight LED). How it differs from FULL LED? what is the advantage over edge LED model?
- am not seeing such an option other vendors?
- it claimed 100MHZ as clear motion rate and in show room they said it is 50HZ. how important this affect the quality of the display (including HD content)

Please share your thoughts/input on this and share your feedback if anyone purchased this model.

Thanks

Have you given any thought for plasma TV (42" and above only). One member here (arnprasad) purchased Panasonic 50XT50 for 50K at Metro Cash & Carry, Bangalore. Although this TV is without 3D glasses, this is a fantastic deal. Which 50" TV is available at this price. Then again, Samsung 43eh470 plasma is available for 34K or thereabout.

For 32", you will have to stick to LCD/LED only.

Your queries:

In backlit LED TV's, the LCD panel is lit by a series of LED's on the backside. The backlit models allow greater control and flexibility for local dimming that is essential to come close to the black levels that are prevalent in a typical plasma. Edgelit LEDs are not as efficient as backlit in this aspect. You can google the terms and get a better explanation.

About clear motion rate: There is a confusion between CMR and refresh rate. The salesman was telling you about the refresh rate. Clear motion rate tries to bring smoothness of motion in the LCD panel (LED TV is basically an LCD TV). The response time is 1000~2000 times slower in LCD panels as compared to plasma. So fast moving scene, camera pans, etc. brings judder. To eliminate judder, the LCD/LED TVs will introduce a predictive picture frames in between to correct this. CMR is a confusing factor and it is believed that Samsung is deliberately misleading the customers by mentioning only CMR and not the refresh rate. The said TV has a CMR or 100Hz and refresh rate of 50 Hz. If the TV had 100Hz as the refresh rate, it would be twice as good. Research this on internet. why settle for 32" LED when you can get 42" plasma for the same price.........always go for the biggest size you can. Panasonic 42X50 / 42XT50 are excellent entry level plasma's.

I think he wants to buy two TV's - one 32" and one 40-42".

Can anyone please tell me where i can get a samsung 43eh470 in banglore...im in the market for a 42 plasma....went and spoke to the panasonic dealer today who told almost all the TVs sold online are display pieces...just a word of advice

Thanks all for the reply.
I have not decided which size to go (32 0r 40). Based on the selected model and budget, will select the size.

Regarding backlit LED, I got the good understanding. but how it differs from Full LED model?

Regarding Plasma, have heard it is consuming more power and less life time than LCD/LED models. Is it true? what is the advantage of going with plasma for bigger screen (42) apart from the price?

You can also suggest good model from lcd/led with
- full hd
- more no of hdmi ports, USB
- >= 100 HZ frequency

1. Plasma will consume a little extra power. Do not go by the rated power output as mentioned in the specs. Specs mention the max power consumed when plasma is in full white mode. A 400W plasma will consume more like 160~250W in normal operation. The LCD/LED will always consume the same power as mentioned in the specs. On the whole the plasma unit will probably add Rs. 30 extra to the power bill.

2. You seem to be believing a lot of junk and hearsay about plasma panel life. The rated life is 100,000 hours before the plasma becomes half as bright when new. This transpires to 34 years assuming 8 hours of operation everyday, 24x7x365.

3. Regarding advantages of plasma, I will have to replicate almost the while "Television" section posts here. :p

Go for LED if u want energy efficiency..my led consumes 46-60W power while operating at backlight setting 6(which incorporates very bright picture in well lit room)...measured using APC UPS with Power Chute software installed in pc...power rating of led is 99W.

You are right @just4kix....

But I feel that LED will suit my hallroom as its bright with a door @ 180 degrees to my viewing angle.

I still have a feeling for plasma though!..:)

I think that LED is suitable for your condition. But if you want plasma, considering your bright room conditions, you will have to go with ST50 at the minimum. That will be costly too.

I had checked the GT50. It is very beautiful to look at, form-factor wise. But PQ-wise and all basic features-wise, it did not do justice to the hefty price increase (105K --> 123K).

Guys who land up in Panasonic showrooms usually end up buying a plasma. :D
:lol::lol::lol:

sri ttp buy a plasma.even the high end lcd/lcd-led are not close enough in terms of picture quality of a entry level 42 inch semi hd panny plasma....best is compare side by side plasma and lcd/lcd-led
and then let ur eyes be the judge....

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the reply. i couldnt continue my tv hunt due to my official work...:( After all these discussions, am also open to see the plasma TVs from Panasonic. But in Bangalore most of the show rooms, not interested to show the plasma tvs and even in display also having non-hd models which are not attracting...

Do you know any show room in bangalore which exclusively for plasma tvs...

Meanwhile have come across the panasonic led tv (E5 series) - TH-L42E5. am looking for the feedback (pros and cons )on this model. Please share your thoughts...

Thanks.
