Hello all,

I am thinking to get a 3d tv by next month and there are two models which I have in my mind (i) Samsung 32ES6200R and (ii) LG 32LM6400.

There are few point which I need to consider before getting one

a) LG comes up with 4 HDMI ports while samsung has 3, so my query is Does hot having one HDMI port makes any difference?
b)LG is providing 4 pair of glasses with their TV and samsung just two and this really makes a difference as samsung glasses are bit costly.
c) Samsung is using slim LED for backlighting while LG uses LED plus. what difference it makes?
d)Samsung is using normal button remote while LG is using magic remote.
e)Power consumption is less in samsung(0.3W) as compared to LG(0.5W) on standby mode.

Also the glasses used by both of them makes a lot of difference as well.

at 32 inch 3d is a waste of money....better get a 42 inch semi hd plasma...at 36k sammy or pana...if dont like plasma...get toshiba 40 inch lcd at 40k....
40 inch screen makes a diff than a 32 inch.
and what 3d contents are there??absolutly nothing except a original 3d br disk...
about ur qustions
1.4 ports of hdmi are useless..3 is quite enough
2.lg uses passive 3d good for health...sammy active very unhealthy.
3.led plus..slim led..just marketing take what ur eyes like
4.same in remote....what magic we can do with remote...
5.just calculate on a real time basis how much electrical energy will be used in 0.2watts...

1 unit=watt*hour
----------
1000

so may be 5000 hours will be for one unit may be 5 rs max............5000 hours!!!!!!
now u decide....

In your 50+k budget its just a waste of money to go for these two models. Better go for LED Pana L42E5D (55k) , Samsung 40EH5330 (55k)

Hello all,

I am thinking to get a 3d tv by next month and there are two models which I have in my mind (i) Samsung 32ES6200R and (ii) LG 32LM6400.
As said by prosenjit, do not waste money on 32" 3D TV. In proper 3D, image pop out of the screen. To get the best immersing 3D experience at least 50" TV is recommended. The 32" will simply not be able to produce that effect. I am not enjoying 3D on 50" (and I am not even getting into the active vs. passive debate). When I was in the hunt for TV, I looked at the 65VT30 and the 3D on 65" is just "wow". Having said that, 3D was not my list of requirements at all. It is there and so be it.

There are few point which I need to consider before getting one

a) LG comes up with 4 HDMI ports while samsung has 3, so my query is Does hot having one HDMI port makes any difference?
An extra HDMI port does not make an iota of a difference unless you have a battery of HDMI sources. 2 ports are sufficient in most cases.

b)LG is providing 4 pair of glasses with their TV and samsung just two and this really makes a difference as samsung glasses are bit costly.
The Samsung 3D glasses are Rs. 1,300 each. So yes, LG has advantage. Besides for Rs. 1,300 you will get two pairs of passive 3D glasses. But then what is the difference in cost between Samsung 32ES6200R (MRP=57,300) and LG 32LM6400 (MRP=60,000). The LG is expensive and the extra cost offsets cost of additional glasses that you may purchase with Samsung.

c) Samsung is using slim LED for backlighting while LG uses LED plus. what difference it makes?
Here is what C-Net says on backlight dimming used by Samsung and LG:
There are a few 2010 LED TVs from Samsung and LG, however, that can perform a semblance of local dimming from an edge-lit configuration. Samsung calls its technology "precision dimming" to help differentiate it from true local dimming, and it's found only on the high-end UNC8000 series. (Samsung has not announced a 2010 TV with full-array local dimming.) LG calls its version "LED Plus," and it's found on the LH5500 and LX6500 series. In our tests we liked Samsung's version better, but neither performed as well as true local dimming.

There is probably no discernible difference.

d)Samsung is using normal button remote while LG is using magic remote.
An LG feature that is probably useless. Useful for smart apps only. How much smart apps are you going to use? Search the net on this.

e)Power consumption is less in samsung(0.3W) as compared to LG(0.5W) on standby mode.
Absolutely ignorable fact. But it is suggested that you should completely power off all equipment rather than keeping then on standby, especially when you know that there will be no use for long duration. Combined standby power from all home appliance such as TV, DVD/BD player, other AV equipment, microwave, etc. will combine to consume 2W to 6W depending upon the number. And then when you completely power off from mains, you are also protecting the equipment from surges that may happen during that time.

Also the glasses used by both of them makes a lot of difference as well.
That depends upon individual. I agree that passive 3D is better for eyes.

I like the plasmas from panasonic but since I am looking for a 3d Tv and Panasonic do use active glasses so I don't consider them worth buying until their passive 3D sets come to market and same is the same with the Toshiba as well.
and Yes, thanks for explaining the points in a efficient way,

Both the models you mentioned use the active tech and I am avoiding the active glasses as they are bulky and also produces negative effect on health as well.

Look like I had to drop my idea of getting an 32" TV and have to go for something bigger(around 55") and this is gonna effect my pocket very well as well.
One thing which I am now pretty sure of is i am going to get an passive 3d set only as i don't want to experience any flicker and crosstalk.
So what are the option i have for passive sets?? LG and Toshiba?? and I heard Panasonic has also launched their passive tech so Is it available in India?

as i said dont waste ur hard earned money on 3d....what 3d contents u will see in them
I dont think u will reapeat and repeat the 3d demo materials of showrooms
...watch 3d in theters spending 300 Rs max....eevry month at least one movie is realising in 3d.
for home spend for best picture quality and biggest size possible with ur budget...
50 inch plasma is good or can buy projectors also..they are cheap nowadays....

now its your call

why not try 42 inch semi hd pana or sammy plasmas.....demo them..u may change ur mind..within 38k

well, i agree with your point but as per my knowledge I can also experience 2D content on a 3d TV. i hope I am right on this.
I am a bit concerned about getting the plasmas as In due time i think they will be phased out of the display market as LCDs have been. Right now LED is dominating the market so why not get an LED TV instead of plasmas?
What's your take on this?

Indian11..just a small info 1 unit=1 kilo Watt X 1 hour..so that standby power consumption is not a point to discuss while getting a 3D tv.

Hello!! Panasonic ET5 is passive 3d...They are coming in 55, 47 and 42 inches category..Recently they have declared they are going to launch ET5 in 60 inches category which indeed the biggest Non-Plasma display by Panasonic.

ET5 Series | Panasonic

When it comes to LED, Panasonic also goes by Samsung, LG's way, i.e. Not great picture quality (for expert eyes) but very much bright and vivid (actually its artificial) color reproduction...

So the choice is yours whether you want a plasma from Panasonic with true picture quality or go by the bright and highly colorful LED models (be it Panny, Sammy, LG and or Sony (Yes! Sony also has joined the league with their new 2012 'Overbright' LEDs )...

Bright is not necessarily bad. Or maybe it is for some people. The same way the "dim" picture of Plasma is an issue for some, while others love it.

The same "bright" LEDs are the only option for a lot of people as the dim plasmas just can't perform good in a room with a lot of natural light or bright artificial light.

Many (or most ?) people like to have their TV bright and vivid and this is an important reason of popularity of LED TVs.

I checked the panasonic plasmas suggestd by you but looking at the specs i found that the glasses used by them weren't mentioned by them so??
and what's overbright LEDs as used by sony?

I am also considering the same point as well and looking for TV which can provide me bright and vivid picture.
I am not in favour of dim lighting.

@Indian11

I suggest you demo the Sony Bravia 32HX750 3D performance at a Sony showroom. It's got really nice 3D performance and 2D wise also its slightly better than the Samsung/LG models you shortlisted.

Also its a native 200hz panel with 400hz motionflow and 240hz refresh rate in 3D mode. The Samsung/LG models are 100hz native with 200hz CMR/Trumotion

Provided you don't sit too far off from the TV, it will deliver a more than decent 3D experience. Plus its cheaper too at 54k.

I was gonna recommend the UT50 but you already mentioned you want a bright TV so I won't.
