40$ Raspberry Pi - Could this be the latest HTPC?

As per this site it indeed works even for a 1080p movie playback over the hdmi. I think there is nothing called out of the box here as you need to get the Pi board and get the power supply and also an SD card (with raspbmc pre-installed or you can download from the site and write on a SD card preferably a class 10).

Thanks

I understand that. I think it was a wrong choice of words. What I meant is could RaspBMC be installed don the Pi and used as a media player without tweaking and hacking?

Do you plan to try the RaspBMC on the box? I'm curious to see if that works without any issues out of the box...

I am running RaspBMC only grubyhalo...if you see my post I have mentioned it...I tried both Xbian and Raspbmc, and settled on RaspBMC as I found the playback to be more glitch free...although this goes against the popular opinion out there, who all say that Xbian is faster, I did not find that in practice though...I need to try the setup again with a class 10 USB card though...lets see if I find time before diwali to do that...

as far as your specific question on out of the box...it does work out of the box with Raspbmc as far as video playback is concerned..

what I cannot stress enough upon is given how low powered this device is, it needs all the help you can give it...so a good quality PSU a must, and one must make sure it is at least 700 mah official charger not some cheap knock off...and I imagine even the class 10 SD will help, maybe after that the hanging through the menu will stop altogether...

I see, I might have missed it. Thanks!
