Hi,

I have been surfing this site. Its got some really valuable threads.

I want to buy a Plasma Tv 42". My shortlist as of now is Pana X20, V20 and Samsung C430 and C450.

Somehow I found Samsung audio quality much better than pana. My budget is around 50-60K.

For sure I want to buy plasma. Usage would be cable tv (plan to buy Dish Tv- its got 30 HD channels) and movies (through hard disk and DVDs). No gaming though.

Kindly recommend which ones are better with reason. Any horizon for the new models. Is it worth waiting if there are just cosmetic changes in 2011 models.

Plan to buy within April.

I stay in Delhi NCR.

Cheers

have just purchased Panasonic 42v20d and I can say PQ is awesome, I read/heard that when it comes to plasma Panny is one of the best and in 42" it's the best bet.

agree with iamanand.. i have a 50" pana plasma and when it comes to plasmas then nothing beats PANASONIC

Without a doubt panny v20 Is awesome !!!!
Unless u don't plan to use hd .... Which is unlikely on 42+ inches

Will you elaborate this please?

The true power of v20 is seen when running HD content, it's amazing ....

But on SD content like local cable walla's I didn't find it much diff than any other LCD/led tv and sometimes may be even lower....so upscaling of panny is not so great compared to few edge lit stuff around.....or I have not got the right optimization methods.......

But then the point is at 42" SD has no meaning be it any technology.... LED/LCD/plasma.....

Like the rest of the herd, I will say Panasonic V20D. I desparately want the 50V20D but lack of funds is the issue.

OK. I would like to make some updates.

Yesterday I visited the Shopping Festival in Pune and went to the Panasonic stall among others. The 50V20 and 50X30 were just one below other. The source was playing a demo blu-ray disc. My impressions were as follows:
  • there was only a slight difference between the black levels of the two models and I played the content in dynamic, natural, and cinema modes
  • to the majority, the black level difference would be negligible
  • ditto with colour reproduction
  • horizontal and vertical lines showed jagged edges in X30 and that is natural as it is not Full HD
  • when viewing the Full HD content, there is no visible discernable difference between the two panel - only when your nose is about to touch the panel, is when the difference can be seen
  • but when panel displays text, the X30 reveals itself as a 720p model (and not till then)
  • the X30 price was 58K vs. 102K of V20
  • in my opinion, the X30 is a very good option
Now on the X30. I asked the man whether it was really the 30 model because the website does not mention it. He said that this is the latest model.

My opinion is that for watching content on SD, DTH-HD, 720p HD, downloaded HD contents, etc. the X30 is a good buy. Only when playing an Avatar or Pirates of the Carribean kind of blu-ray, will the V20D stand out.

Dear friend,
I was also in the same situation when i wanted to buy a plasma. My dilemma initially was to whether to opt for a Plasma or an LCD/LED. I do 60% Movies and 40% Games. I always enjoy a movie better than anything on this world, so i looked no further and bought a plasma. Since you seem to know the edge a plasma has when it comes to movies, i would suggest you to go for Panasonic for they have "THE" best televisions which can produce images of impeccable quality. I am a proud owner of the P42V20D and oh boy, i am more than satisfied with it. Panny's look great, produce amazing pictures and have the best connectivity options. I bought mine for 63k about 9 months ago. I am assertive that you can get it for a really good price now.

Can anyone confirm whether X30 supports external HDD whch has a power chord...(not the portable HDDs which directly connect using a USB without power chord)

Wharfedale Linton Heritage Speakers in Walnut finish at a Special Offer Price. BUY now before the price increase.
