Thanks to prosenjit, lake1988, Dirac, avmaxfan, justfkix, Indian11 for your responses.
Although it seems like my shoutout didn't reach out to any HX750 owners (I know its a bit contradictory to the title of the thread
).
Yet, with help and tips from all you guys and the guys I've thanked earlier, I have selected Sony 55" HX 750 as the final one:
My 5th day TV hunting experience:
Day 5: Since I had already concluded that the Picture Quality of the HX750 & 850 was higher than that of Samsung ES 6200, I went to review the features highlighted in one of my previous threads (this issues highlighted by me in my earlier post according to problems faced by users posted on Amazon like sites. And my responses against each issue - my own little version of Myth Busters
hyeah
:
Myth #1: The Viewing angle on Sony isn't too wide. You have to sit directly in front of the TV to enjoy it. Any deviation in the straight angle reduces the overall effect
Analysis: The TV unit at Kohinoor is placed at a height, yet, I tried to view the non-HD news channel like NDTV/India TV almost at an angle of 140-150 at a distance of 10 feet and found out that I was able to read the tickers very easily. Also, I switched on some sports channels and was able to read the tiny score given at the corner of the screen very clearly (couldn't confirm on the loss of picture quality though)
Result: Myth Busted.
Myth #2: WiFi not being able to connect even if the TV is in range
Analysis: Kohinoor didn't have a WiFi connection in their store (strange considering they mostly have internet TVs on display). The store owner was kind enough to start a hotspot on his Galaxy Note II and Blackberry. This guy was sitting some 10 feet away from the TV. HX 750 was unable to connect to the hotspot from Galaxy (I could not confirm if this issue was related to the TV or the phone configuration or the connection). We got connected to the Blackberry WiFi within a minute.
Result: Myth Busted. At this stage, I can conclude that the issue with HX 750s not being able to connect to WiFi even if the WiFi source is within 10 feet can be isolated to a few units and not all TVs. I need to further analyze this issue with larger distances and check once the unit is installed at my place (since my WiFi router will be almost 25 feet away from the TV.)
Myth #3: You Tube doesn't directly stream videos from You Tube servers. The You Tube App on Sony contacts the Sony servers and streams videos from there (here you would find only a limited set of videos)
Analysis: This myth is specific to the YouTube App present on the TV. I will not be able to comment on the videos accessed using the browser as I had limited my analysis to the native YouTube application offered with the TV The YouTube App was seemless and fast (very responsive). We played some Swedish House Mafia (my fav
), Axtone and Axwell videos and I observed that not all videos were featured in the video list that appeared on the TV (I knew this for sure since we were searching for a specific song by one of these artists and generally, if searched on my lappy, that song appears within the top 3 results whereas on the TV, I went through the top 100 results and didn't find it. I ensured that the search query used by me on the TV is the same as the one I use on my lappy whenever I want to search that track on YouTube).
Result: Myth Confirmed. This is purely based on the analysis logic given above. I'm open to any more suggestions that I can try once I have the TV at my place.
Myth #4: Web browser is sluggish and takes a lot of time in opening/rendering. Also, the web browser will only display content from Sony websites and its does NOT let you browse through the free internet
Analysis: Opened the Web Browser (homepage was set to Sony Networks (duh:indifferent14
. Used the TV remote to manually type Google.com in the "URL" option of the browser and within a blink of the eye, there it was - the Google page with the India Doodle on it. Checked some other A-grade websites like icicibank.com, kotak.com (sites that I generally access on my lappy) and they all worked fine. The conclusion was - the Myth Busted. Although would like to point out few issues I noticed with the browsing experience:
1. The rendering of the page wasn't right. I know webpages are not made for TVs as yet but opening the icicibank.com and google.com websites on the gargantuan 55" screen reminded me of the first time I switched from 17" pure-flat CRT monitor to a 19" Widescreen monitor for my PC. Immediately after hooking up the 19 incher, I opened Orkut and Google and it seemed odd since the websites fit right in the center of my monitor leaving so much empty space on left and right sides of the page
2. The browser did not have an address bar where I could directly enter the URL I wanted to browse to. You have to click on "Settings" and then on "URL" to enter the URL of your choice which seemed painful
Result: Myth Busted.
Myth #5: The Smart TV experience (Internet/Media connectivity) on Sony is very slow and unresponsive
Analysis: Browsing through the various "Smart" options on the TV was easy. The unit got stuck momentarily when I was browsing through various web pages. This happened just once so don't think it really qualifies to be an issue. Configuring the Wireless Network Access, going through various TV menus, using the "Smart" features of Internet Browser and YouTube was fast and responsive
Result: Myth Busted.
Analysis of all the above 5 points are purely based on the 30 minute demo of the HX 750 that was taken using a WiFi hotspot setup on a mobile phone. I'm not sure if I might a different experience in daily use (although I pray to God that I don't
).
With over 5 days of visiting one store to the other, going through various demos and the countless hours of searching the web for reveiws and comments,
I have finally purchased the Sony 55" HX 750 from Kohinoor (Kandivali) and the unit is expected to be delivered in the next few days :yahoo:.
Once again, thanks to all and everyone for helping me out. I'll soon write back with my experience of daily usage of the TV and I'm here to answer any queries others might have before purchasing this model just like me. Cheers, Happy Diwali and a Great New Year to all you guys:clapping:.
