w850 sd quality is very dull and blacks are very bad in sunlight .. in night time its ok

Does your W950A play mkv extension files without any hassles? The Sony website says that this television does support files with mkv extension however I've heard that in fact it doesn't

All IMHO:

I have SONY KDL-46EX710 & Samsung UA40F6400. To me black levels are equally good on both the TV's. Color saturation looks slightly exaggerated on Sony than on Samsung one which leads Samsung to have a natural picture tone. Both have calibrated settings applied.

Samsung's PQ looks natural as compared to my Sony.

I have also compared Samsung UA40F6400 to the Samsung 4900 series plasma HD ready model in the showroom and I believe that black levels were superior on both the sets.

F6400 has slightly better black levels than on the F5500/F5000 series.

If you guys can do very slight compromise on black levels then get the F5500 and if you guys can negate the smart functionality of the F5500 so get the F5000.

yes some mkv encoded in H264 dint play

for that use homestream software from sony

connect both tv , pc in same wifi network

then tv will detect homestream running in pc

from homestream play any encoded file ..tv will play it

Any suggestions on which HD DTH connection I should go for? I've used dish tv before and I hate it.

tata sky is best .. i have it ... it has 5.1 sound in all HD channels..

SD channels also come very good ..comparable to HD

i have metro pack 340 monthly plus 125 hd.. its too much .. 300 total would have been reasonable

in rains too ..tata sky singal drops to 0 but fastly comes back.

before this i used reliance ..which was shit like videocon,dish

Depends from area to area. Videocon D2H rules in our area. Airtel $ucks and TataSky is pretty good.

Hey!! How is the blacks on this TV? I'm guessing W850 would be better than the W800.

Price for W850 hasn't reduced like the W950, though.

I would have picked up the W950, if it wasn't for the active glasses.
The W850 fits the bill nicely as an overall best tv for my use.

Anyone having bought the set would like to comment on W850?
I'm buying it by GudiPadwa (for any additional offers).

3d is dead and active 3d still offers superior resolution compared to passive 3d.
The W950 contrast is far superior to that of W850.

Don't judge a TV by the 3D tech. It is still nascent and I can assure you my friend it will be rarely used , not worth even evaluating. FYI,I have almost 12 or so BDs in 3D for more than a year now, still don't feel like watching it as 2D is always better. W950 definitely a superior TV than 850, and you should not think twice before garbing the same at such a jaw dropping price of under 1.5 lacs.

i watch 3d daily.. loved titanic 3d in w950 ..

I got my 55W950A couple of days ago and I've been hugely impressed so far. Cracking blacks and brilliant colour reproduction.

I do not see an option of turning the local dimming on or off in the settings, I'd appreciate it if you could help me with that.

and the guy who burned 2.2lak in samsung 64f8500 plasma's blacks with bluray

so never burn ur hard earned money in shit technology called plasma . which wont exist in future

local dimming in sensitive feature .. its there in advanced settings > LED dynamic control

and trilumious setting is there as live colour

every setting depends on noise filtering on / off ..

so tinker settings with utmost care

viewing angles with windows direkt opposite to tv .. it handles easily .. palsma would have died with curtain direkt opposite
