Hello everyone :)

I'm a techie from Chennai. I had started out on an idea to put up a home theatre system at home and after a month of browsing around croma and reliance digital stores, I stumbled upon this incredibly helpful and useful forum.

I have a basic media and visual set up at home but I am a noob to audio and my ears are yet to mature :) I am looking to improve on this.

My current 'infra'

Visual
LG 42LS5700 Smart LED TV - Lan wired to router - Living room
Samsung F5300 Series 5 Smart LED TV - Bed room 1 (Wireless USB)
Sony KDL32CX520 Smart LCD TV - Bed room 2 (Wireless USB)

STB
Videocon HD STB x 2 (living and bedroom 1)

Media server + Network
Synology Diskstation DS212j - 3TB WD Green + 2TB Seagate barracuda - Plex server installed
Netgear DGND3700 - N600 Gigabit Wireless DSL Router

Audio...
I have a mitashi 2.1 connected to my living room TV and it sounds pathetic :( well, I skimped on the audio bit until now.

I am looking to add a decent AV setup and I have a budget of around 50k and I need some guidance in how to spend this budget.. I live in an apartment where I have to keep the sound to an acceptable limit. heavy bass will be a no-no.. I use the living room tv and bedroom 1 tv a lot and the sound is very poor.. especially from the LG..

Option 1
-The marantz 1504 + boston acoustics 5.1 package for the living room

Option 2
Yamaha 196 packages for living and bedroom 1.

Option 3
40k package for the living room and an edifier c3 for the bedroom

I would be very grateful for any suggestions from expert members..

IMO... The marantz 1504 + boston acoustics 5.1 package would be the best bet in this comparison list.

BA 5.1 is an award winning system and SQ would obviously be better. IMO... if you go for the 5.1 setup only instead of one 5.1 for living and 2.0/2.1 for bedroom, you'll be landed up with a better solution. If the budget is strict better to spend the whole on one system.

Anyway.... I feel 1504 is a little bit underpowered (50W @ 8ohm). However, it will be sufficient for driving BA speakers. :)

I think you should audition various combos to get a feel for their performance. What works best for you is what you should buy.

Thanks Saikat and GeorgeO.. The problem is that after listening to just the TV speakers, everything sounds fantastic.. I've auditioned the onkyo3500, Denon X500 HT, Pioneer HTP-072.. I like the denon but is the marantz even better?

Welcome to HFV.
Lot of rooms. Lot of TVs. Lot of audio needs. Lot of damage. :ohyeah:

I too suggest to go for Marantz 1504 or Yamaha 375 with Boston 2310 package. Should be a good start.

Yamaha, Pioneer or even Denon might be better in lower end ones and they are good VFM too. I bought Pioneer last year and it fills my needs.

I think spending more money on speakers and less on receiver might be the way to go.
Investment in speakers holds value better.

Its a Marantz 1504 with BA XS 5.1 :) I spoke to Mr Anil over the receivers and he explained that Marantz is one of the better sounding receivers and that its priced well in India compared to others.

The deal on HiFiMart was fantastic and I have placed an order with him. It was shipped yesterday.. fingers cross till it gets here..
