Acer H5370BD - Impressions

You can certainly put an add. Those who dont want 3D will look for WDTV.
How is KDLinks 720 overall performance?3D?Can you post some images?

It is early days with the KDLinks for me. Early impressions are good. Some early observations:
1. Decent UI, but quite clunky. Screens are quite well laid out and transitions are decent
2. Some HDMI handshake problems (?) observed with the projector. Starting a play it often resyncs. Take 5-7 secs but hugely annoying. This might be a issue with my settings. Need to look into it.
3. Read speed is quite fast. Am using only with external USB drive thus far (internal is on order).
4. Haven't tried network shares yet. Have read about a few problems in read/ write to the device over the network
5. Network connects quickly and performs well. If you enjoy typing with the remote, you will have a great YouTube experience:D
6. Remote is largish and well laid out. Does not take much getting used to. Most of the buttons are useless though, or I have not yet found any uses for them
7. 3D- Works fairly well out of the box. I had no issues with running full 3D ISOs. Had some issues with 3D OU not working properly (was getting a reflection of the image, giving me a headache). Nothing which cannot be worked out, and duly was. 3D experience with the projector is spectacular.
8. Plays ALL file types. I haven't tested the DTS-MA or DolbyTruHD sound yet, but specs say it supports. I have files. Will test over the weekend.

What else....not much actually. Initial setup is simple and straightforward (have not had to refer to the user manual as yet). HDMI cable is included with the device, batteries for the remote (AAA) are not- go figure:). Let me know if you guys have any specific queries....

I have not taken any pictures thus far. Will try over the weekend and share.

Does the acer H5380 supports Half SBS, Full SBS, Half OU, FUll OU, Frame packaging , sequential frame 3D???

Yes. It should be. As far as I could remember I have seen all these options in H5370BD. Though so far I have used only HSBS, FSBS, HOU and FOU and they are great.

My Experience with ACER H5380BD. currently I have not any HD source, I checked with laptop and SD BOX only.

Pros:
Picture Quality is good.
Very bright projector suitable for home entertainment.
Compact Design
Manual Focus works great, give maximum clarity
Value for Money

Cons
Dark Scene watchable in user mode only but user mode are very bright and hurts to eye.
Unable to show current Lamp Usage Hours.
Fan stop immediatly even after proper shutdown, as per my knowledge FAN will stop after 60 second for cooling purpose.

Will post picture soon, Once getting HD source. Looking to Buy TATA sky HD.

Congratsss Man... Enjoyy.. :clapping:

Btw where u able to check whether its a PC 3D ready or not ?

i just bought a H5370BD

I have ordered some 3d glasses that im waiting for.

My question is.

i have tried to play a 3d file from my computer to the acer but it only shows 2 pictures side by side. Shouldnt the 5370bd put the pictures on top of each other? Or do i hafto have glasses to do so?

I hope someone can answer my question!

what you are referring is a 3D SBS ( full side by side/ half side by side). most common are HSBS (half side by side). top of each other is another format similar to sbs. instead of vertical divison of screen in left/right it does in top/bottom.

press 3D button on remote.
you get to 3D menu
highlight Half Side by Side
press right button(right arrow)..

you are done.. enjoy..

hi guys, have gone this thread over last few days. the people like ironhorse, spirovious and person who started this thread jsanand have become like iconic figures in my mind. The impact of this thread is that when I started to read this thread I had no intention of buying the projector but now after reading the thread I am about to order acer h5380bd through ishopinternational.

I just have one confusion. h5370 mentions full hd 3d where as 5380 mentions as 3d pc ready. If you guys clear this difference or make it clear that both projectors have same 3d specs than I will order it right now.

Just checked with amazon. Says cannot ship to address mentioned and asks to change the address. But if it ships to india it will add shipping and import duty

Newegg has even better offer on ACER h5380BD..... $429 list price - $30 off

"+ USD $30 off w/ promo code EMCPFHH225, ends 4/28"

If I understand correctly its the new model and cost just $329...., Good chance to those who are interested to buy....

I have made the order through newegg for h5380bd today. Now need to search for screen. Lot of information is thrre in this thread itself. Just need to revind and search

I have tried that but the pictures didnt overlap.

I did get the pictures to overlap when i did this

First i went into 3d settings and choose 3d HSBS

THEN i started my movie file. That made the pictures overlap but i dont know if it's correct because i dont have my 3d glasses yet...

If the images appear overlapped then you are doing it right. The 3d glass will combine the images to produce the 3d effect.

Can anybody suggest what is the difference between SBS and HSBS??

I could not observe any major difference in my PJ, Both are working fine hence curious to know.

Thanks in advance.

OK. I got my answer. So basically both are same except HSBS has half resolution as compared to Full SBS. Here is the explanation through random google search.
{{
Half Side-by-Side (SBS), means the left and right views of a 3D video are subsampled at half resolution and you get a backwards compatible full frame.

Example: Say, each view is 1920x1080
subsample to 960 x 1080, put them side by side and now you have a 3D 1920x1080 frame.

Full SBS, means you transmit both views at full resolution; better quality, but bigger file.

My order of Microtek 800 VA UPS from Amazon got delivered yesterday. Packing and product looks nice. Need to put it on initial charge prior to using it.

It is mentioned in the manual that the UPS is to be used only for computers and printers. I hope operating TV+STB or my 5370 projector would not cause any issue.

Got my PJ and was busy with it for past couple of days. First of all.. what an awesome experience it is.. I am thrilled to see a huge screen in my small HT with good clarity. Pros - pic quality, light weight, features and everything discussed in this forum..
cons - Now DVDs, which were looking OK in a 32" LCD started looking very bad. But HD/BR looks great. :)

But now I am facing two challenges and need some help from the forum to resolve those

I brought a APC BE800 UPS to support it. It will run fine, but strangely it tripped multiple times , I guess when there is a voltage fluctuation. I meant tripped in the sense, it turned off unexpectedly without starting the backup and came back online after around 10 secs. I was shell shocked when I saw the UPS tripping without starting the backup. If this is the nature why we need a UPS? :( I need to explore more or may need to call online support to investigate. Any clues on this behavior?

Second issue - I have a Samsung blueray player which has a web interface from where I can browse youtube. It worked well when I connected to a TV, but when I connected the PJ and chose youtube, it showed a colored grainy screen and then went to the boot screen of PJ showing no signal found. The BR player will immediately come out of the youtube application and go back to home screen and then the PJ will display it correctly. But I was able to watch youtube occasionally but most of the time it is having this behavior. I also faced similar issue when I played some bluerays (not all). Discs played well, but when it reached the menu screen it again turned back to a blank screen and my amp started some hissing sound. It came back to normal after couple of seconds and displayed menu correctly. I feel this is some issue with HDMI handshake as I am using a 5m long HDMI cable, but I maybe wrong.

Any help in getting me a solution to these issue will be appreciated.

Congrats itsME, enoy your PJ...

800 VA UPS didn't work in my case and it tripped, I am posting this time and again, you need 1000 VA to be on the safer side. I tried 800 VA from 2 manufacturers, It didn't support the PJ.

The second issue is the HDMI handshake issue, It does happen with me for some files, but I am not bothered about it now, just wait for a couple of seconds. I guess no work around for this.
