Acer H5370BD - Impressions

Can any of you confirm if H5380BD is 3D ready or full 3D, I believe the diffeence would be if 3D files can be played directly from 3D players or a laptop.

Congrats dumbodada. Nice to hear that you are the proud owner of Acer Projector now. Hope the waiting period ends soon and we have the privilege to see your projector :)

I am facing one issue with acer h5380bd. Being a very bright projector, whenever a scene shot in bright sunlight it is so bright that it sometimes hurt the eyes. My screen is 120 inc and the viewing distance is about 14-15 feet. I have tried reducing brightness to around 40, it helps but then the darker scenes become dull.
Any suggestions on the settings.
Would calibration disks like avs hd 709 help on settings.

Are you using a proper screen? Also, check whether eco mode is enabled

Thanks for the suggestions. I have tried by reducing the brightness, contrast etc. But the scenes which are bright give whitish tinge/reflection. The screen is manual and white mat from logic. I am not sure whether viewing distance of 14-15 feet for 120 inch screen is ok or do I need to reduce the screen size. Otherwise all other things like color, image clarity at such large screen is excellent.

Couple of things I will suggest :
* Matt white screens are High Gain but not High Contrast. These screens eats a lot of Contrast and PQ looks faded with extra brightness. Secondly, light colours walls, ceiling, etc. also lead to unpleasant PQ. Nothing much you can do here. Alternatively, you can try a off white wall for your projection, if you like the PQ on wall, your screen is the culprit.

* Personally I feel 120" for this PJ is too much. Kindly check after reducing the projection to 90" and see if you like the PQ.

* What is the source you are using ? In the source, set the output to 720p instead of 1080p to match the native resolution of PJ. I have experienced 720p on source looks better than 1080p.

* Finally if you using any AVR in between source and PJ, set the Video Settings off.

See it helps and give your feedback.

Amazon shows the price of Acer H5370BD 3D Home Theater Projector (White) as $551.88

but the newer

Acer H5380BD Home Theater Projector (2013 Model) by Acer as $489.99

Hi darshan thanks for ur suggestions.
First of all the image is quite sharp and clear at 120 inch with blu ray or hd input.
Apart from very bright scenes I dont have any issues.
I will check by changing 720p in the source.
BTW my source is blu ray player or tata sky hd.
And I use avr (yamaha yht 299) between the source and the projector. What do u mean about the video settings off. In the avr?

It may be because acer has now discontinued acer h5370bd. Stores with last few pieces must be selling at higher prices

Most AVR has Video Upscaling capability which can bypassed by setting to off.

Hi guys, I reecieved 3d glasses from ebay for my acer h5380bd yesterday.
It costed me Rs 1750/- which I think are cheapest available in india. That too I got it in just 2 days after I made the order.
The 3d experience is just out of the box. It is as good as theatre.
And being a bright projector, the 3d image does not get too dull even after significant decrease of lumens by the projector when watching 3d.

3 questions

1) why does Amazon calls this 2013 model and not 2014 ?
2) Amazon reviewers mention they got it for 399...did we miss any sale recently on this one?
3) Lastly I have trouble with my Acer recognizing signals from my desktop when it is routed through my receiver. If I connect my desktop directly to the projector, then it works well, but I lose out on audio. IS there is a solution for this? when desktop is connected to projector via HDMI, is it possible that I use another cable from desktop to my AVR for audio? since 5380 has an audio out, assuming I buy this, will this solve my problem?

I bought one glass from ebay one month back. It was rechargeable model. It will work for sure, but there was terrible ghosting. Also after a week or so, the battery stopped charging. I returned it to the seller and he gave me a battery based glass, this one has no ghosting effect, but the battery depleted quickly. I then tried another battery and it didn't work. Returned it also and got another one. It also is not working to my satisfaction. Better to buy branded glasses from 3dtvcorp or sainsonic.

If your desktop has two hdmi outs then one can be used for display and the other for audio. Some graphics cards allow simultaneous use of dvi and hdmi outs, so you can connect the dvi out to pj and hdmi out to avr.

If your PC has a DVI port, try using and HDMI-DVI dual link cable to pass video to the projector. I am using this one

Mine works absolutely fine thru AVR. Which AVR you have ?
My graphic card has DVI plus HDMI. Still I route thru AVR. If you dont route thru AVR then you wont GUI of your AVR. Doing settings will be problem unless you can manage settings with your AVR Display.

Post your exact problem. We might be able to help you.
