I have this Whirlpool washing machine which I have been using for more than 10 years. There hasn't been any problem with the machine and works very well but now due to it's age and usage it is slowly getting rusted at the bottom and water seepage is happening in the motor. BTW it is a top loading washing machine. Any suggestions on which washing machine is good buy now also with good after sales service. I am also not sure about the pro and cons of front loading and top loading machines. Frankly I do not know anything about front loading machines as I've been using top loading machines only. Should a top loading machine suffice or should I go for front loading? My usage would be around weekly twice only. Please suggest.

Top loading is old generation stuffs, go for it only if you don't have direct water supply to the machine, else front loading all the way.

you can't go wrong with any good brands like IFB, Samsung, LG, Whirlpool, etc
IFB will be costly (without any proven reason, in fact i feel the build quality is inferior than Samsung/LG).
Check with you local dealer which brands provide the best after-sales in your region and go with it. they will also help you compare the features side by side.

IFB after sales is not good and the quality seems going down. They don't replace nor repair parts easily as the servicing is outsourced to franchisee. Try Panasonic or other reputed brands.

I too feel that Samsung and LG have set the benchmarks.

I cannot give specific model recommendations but my two cents:

- Buy a model that gives you near 100% drying capability. Once you get used to a good dryer, you will find it extremely useful. Not having to put clothes on a clothes line is awesome and a lot less work!

- Buy a model with the largest capacity possible. I've seen from personal experience that with white good devices like washing machine and refrigerator and oven - there is no "enough". The bigger the better. Probably same applies to a house, but that is too obvious a statement to make.

To put it another way, I will buy a model with slightly lesser features if it is a larger capacity.

Even a slightly larger capacity can make the difference between 2 loads and 3 loads. And that means an extra 2 hours on a Sunday.

Don't go for IFB, their after-sales is just too bad. We had IFB front loading and it went kaput after 2 years of rigorous usage. Called customer care, they came after 7-8 days and said the part's not available. Since it was out of warranty, you know what's next. Sold it to my friend for 50% value and he had it repaired by local but lasted 1 more year. Their parts are just inferior.

Now, I'm using Samsung front loading for past 4 years+ and I'm very happy with it. Using it 4-5 days a week and it's giving great service. No complains so far.

You can also check Siemens front loading machine. The build quality is top notch. Operation is so smooth and less noise.

It will be expensive Samsung/LG/Whirlpool ( I think 28k+ for the 5kg model when my in-laws bought last year)
You have to also check after sale support in your location.

I was watching Bosch washing machine commercial. Did anyone buy here ? Bosch is German and most of their products are good. Any experience ?

I am a user of IFB for last ten years and have spent more than 50% of its cost on maintenance and repairs.
So would not recommend IFB.
Siemens would be a very good choice. I have seen it running at my relative's place and it is really smooth and silent compared to my IFB.
Regarding capacity, keep one thing in mind: For front loading machines, these are designed to run at full load only (atleast 90%) unlike top-loading ones which can be run at partial load too. So you will have to wait for a complete load of laundry to accumulate. Hence decide on the optimum load you require and not just go for the biggest one.
Also, Bosch washing machine should be good. I am using Bosch fridge for last 7-8 months. It is built very sturdy unlike my previous LG and the cooling is also much better than LG.

I think Bosch machines would also be similar to Siemens in terms of Build quality.

I also had started a thread to buy a washing machine about two months ago

Everyone recommended me a Bosch or a Siemens but my mother was brain washed by some relative that front loading washing machines are not good

So she went with a top loading 8 kg lg machine which was purchased for 21k. Mrp was around 23250

It's not at all bad and is working flawlessly till now, has full dry function

And everyone knows lg / samsung have good service due to a big market

But I am sure Siemens or a Bosch is worth it's price, no one can deny that

In case if I buy a front loading washing machine do I need to run it with full load only, I mean if I have two or three clothes to wash would I not be able to wash? I thought of going for IFB but now seems like most of us who bought IFB are having problem. I think next best brand would be Bosch and alternately LG and Samsung can also be considered for their durability.

As far as I am aware, you do need to run FL's on full load, atleast 80-90%.
But am open to any counter views from other members with first hand experiences.

@mathan: Top-loading are not bad, but FL's are more gentle on the clothes, consume much less water and clean better. Also, FL's always have a heater option (useful for heavily soiled clothes esp during winters), but top-loading ones seldom have that.

The advantage of top-loading is that you can add or remove any cloth even when the machine is running. Also, it is easier to use since it opens from the top. I have observed that most of the housewives prefer top-loading machines :)

I am using this Bosch Avantixx Frontloader 60 cm width WAP24260IN model for 1 year. No issues till date. Have got an error code warning chime one day which was attended within 3 days and found that to be dirty filter cleaned and working fine. Btw there is no customer care, there will be direct service engineer who will be attending hence expect quick response. I found them to be slightly better than my previous LG top loading machine. This same model exist in siemens which has same motor etc with only difference in the exterior but costs 20k more than this. I got this for 40k at the time of launch.

anyone knows if we could exchange our old washing machine when upgrading? do such offers show-up?

I use a Siemens FL for the last 6 years. So far no mechanical problems. Had a sealant problem 2 months back. The engineer came and fixed it fast.

As Karthick mentioned, Bosch and Siemens are unidentical twins. Except the fascia, in most cases, they are same and usually Bosch is 1000Rs costlier. I found this to be the case with my drier as well(Bosch was costly by 1000 Rs). Even the service engineers are the same.

Purchase the Audiolab 6000A Integrated Amplifier at a special offer price.
