Here is the info I gathered from samsung and panasonic websites.
All 2012 HD ready plasmas are 1024*768 with rectangular pixels.
The 50" 2011 models are real 720p with square pixels.
This means the 50" model lineup and the panels are essentially reset. Please dont buy based on past glory.

Ofcource, all 42" models were 1024*768 all the time.
Additionally, sealed 50D490 (3D) with glasses and bluray titles are available for 49,990 (neg) here in hyderabad.
