Altec 2 ways

Work in progress, the very first one is of the two frames, then in sequence , the new cones, adhesive being applied, final cleaning, and with the cones fixed, dust cap and connecting the leads from coil to terminal will be the final bit.

This is with cone fixed but without dustcap, which will be done and leads connected next week, and then with grill cloth and some felt inside the enclosure we will mount the driver, prior to which the gaskets will be fixed on the edge of the basket.

In relation to this, the diaphragm replacement is a simple job and I wont post any more pictures until the speakers are done.

I hope this has shed some light on the whole process.

Looking good george. Looks like GPA pre assembled the cone, vc, spider and pigtails for you. When I got the kit they were all separate. This is a lot better.

I hope this has shed some light on the whole process. Philip Isaac of Lizzner Radio Institute, Bangalore has helped me in the project-without him it would have been a lot more difficult for me.

Awesome GeorgeO! Sir, I will have to come and sample this, especially considering that I got inspired to go the altec way in Bangalore itself-- after listening to santosh's build. Your build looks darn nice. Waiting for the finished pics with the cabs!

Venu/Manav

Give me a little more time, we will definitely have the LF units up and running next week, the HF unit needs a cradle, whose we haven't yet figured out. I'm a a bit wary about just leaving it loose on top, with the flange mounted fibreglass horn. I'm hoping we can address that issue with minimal further delay. My deadline for completion was June-July, I think that should happen.

Yes, came preassembled and it was drop fit into the gap. The adhesive was an acetone based very fast drying one which made us work super fast!

Fast-drying adhesive is scary: less room for mistakes!

This kind of work is very "esoteric" to me, thanks for sharing and illustrating :)

I'm also waiting on FM Sidewinder to ship me some "goop" tomorrow to coat the surround. Unless that is done I cannot mount the driver.

Yes we were also taken by surprise at the speed at which the solvent evaporated. We did two drivers then between a combination of power failure, with limited lighting and the speed of evaporation, postponed the second pair to Monday, after adding some more solvent into the bottle.

I just have a wicked imagination. My wife calls it negative thinking, but she cannot understand how much pleasure it gives me.

Sometimes, imagining what could go wrong saves me from disaster too

Sir,

Just out of topic but applies for your post :-),I heard a real life incident that when ilayaraja composed first track for a film, there was a Power cut ,But he trusted on his dedication towards music so he is shining as Maestro .

So, When power cut happen, then think that GOD has sent you to power the world :ohyeah: and not in negative way

George Sir,

Awaiting for the Photos for Some days now :-) Kindly post them when you are free.

For me its something like waiting for the film after having a "stunning Trailer" :-)

I have a problem-the screws for fixing the diaphragm are missing on the compression driver. I need 6 for each driver and these are not easily available in Bangalore or Chennai. The siize is #6 X 32. So you can say that I am {literally} screwed! The LFs are completed with gaskets and dustcaps. I have to figure out a solution,

Ah, thats really Bad. But one thing is sure.It should be available in bangalore but might take some time to exactly locate them in the Shop.

You tried in SP road though the KR Market, I been several times there and there are tons of metal stuffs so just a deep search would result ripe.
