Hey everyone! I'm from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu and I'm in the process of getting my first HT. I've decided to skip getting an AVR since it's out of my current budget for the amp and speakers.

I'm looking for suggestions on amp + speakers (L/R) combo that are good for watching movies on my TV. My budget is 30k, and I'll be adding a subwoofer later on.

The room size is about 192 square feet. I'm really into bass, so I plan on getting a heavy subwoofer when my budget allows in the future. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

At this budget its difficult to get 2.0 speakers with Amp. Instead look for Soundbars which will fit in to your budget,

Or You have to try used speakers, Check the below section whether it helps. Looks to be good deal for AVR + 5.0 speakers.
@mano2ht

Other option is to get Powered speakers like Edifier. Check in Amazon.

30k is very low to get AVR + Speaker, for your room size you need to increase in your budget for even entry level models.
As suggested by forum member kindly check the person selling speaker + amp in your same place ( coimbatore) try to negotiate to get it, it is good deal

could you clarify what the "1ch driven" part means in their post?
It means 100 watts RMS is rated with 1 channel driven. 5 channel driven means u might get around 40 to 50 watts per channel.
As per their specs online its 70 watts RMS per two channel driven.
All AVR brands today quoting the RMS rating per two channel driven - not 5 channel driven.
Since seller is also from Coimbatore u may directly go and check the condition of the product.
I am not anywhere related to the seller and just got this post while going through classifieds. thought might be useful.

Thanks for the suggestions! I was doing some research and came across a few things that made me reconsider.

Apparently, some folks on Reddit have been having issues with this receiver, like distortion and random power failures. I also saw some forum posts where people were asking for help with the HTR-3066. Since its already 6 years old, there's a chance of encountering problems or it potentially failing down the line. Maybe it's better to consider a newer model to avoid any headaches in the future.

So, I think I'm gonna hold off on the HTR-3066 for now.

Speaking of which, I had another question. I'm planning a passive setup, mainly because I'm not a fan of the hiss that comes with active speakers and I want something that will last. Passive setups seem more expensive though.

Here's my question: Why is an AVR generally considered better than an amplifier even for a 2.1 setup, besides the obvious upgradeability for future surround sound?

For your budget you can go with sound bar loke sony Ht g700 or jbl. They are better.

Other option is buy a Amplifier from norge like norge gold 1000 which is may be around 17k.
It is a 2 channel amplifier each channel 100 watts.
And speakers you can go with any pre owned ones or jbl 120 etc . You can check with our Fms
also fir better guidence.
K have used this norge for 1yr as 2 channel.

Why would you recommend a soundbar when there are HTIBs and active bookshelf speakers? I'd rather go for active speakers instead of a soundbar, and as I mentioned earlier, I prioritize bass, so a sub-out should definitely be considered so that I can add a powerful subwoofer to my setup later.

Why not fosi amps like BT30D and BT20A Pro? Do you think the one you suggested is really the best for home theaters? Also, can you recommend a pair of speakers to go with it that's around 25-30k?
