I picked up a good pre owned Anthem Amp 1 EL 34 power amp of Audiogon r earlier this year and got it across to India, with the intention of pairing it with a Grounded Grid Valve pre from Transcendent Sound. Initially I connected it to a SB without the pre, since the SB has a digital volume control. A few weeks after setting it up and after just beginning to enjoy the sound, to my utter horror one channel packed up.

Having access to a highly experienced person who handles such gear( Lizzner Electronics), I was not too worried. Philip Isaac at Lizzner checked it out and showed me that the main PCG was a inaccessible and said that without the circuit diagram trouble shooting would be very hard.

I was at a loss, for a few days since this was not a current product but anyway I did some searching on the web, got onto the Anthem website and posted the info on their support web form. Lo and behold a few days later they responded with the circuit diagram. I trust that in a few days it will be fixed and back to making sweet music.

Anthem, as many may know ,is now mostly into high end HT gear, but their customer service is excellent. In the end I firmly believe that customer service is what defines a company, and results in gaining or losing customers

I totally agree with you on the customer support being critical. When I bought my Pass amp used, I check it out at my brother's house during delivery. It sounded fine but when I brought it home and connected to my gear, I got a strong humming sound. I panicked and thought that I bought a lemon. I called Pass' Reno contact number. I was told that it was probably due to grounding problem in my house and the person on the phone patiently explained to me how to identify and resolve the issues. Before I hung up, I realized I was talking to Nelson Pass himself. Whenever I buy an amp to replace my current amp, Pass products would be top of the list for sure.

Awesome. That man 'Pass' is great. You are privileged to be customer serviced by him directly....

Audiodoc:

The circuit was sent to me for purely trouble shooting purposes so I will refrain from posting it on the net. It is currently not in the public domain.

guruthebond: Amp was many years out of warranty.
