Bhaskarda,Mr. P. N. Choudhuri, who was in charge of the recording and mastering of the very first stereo record in HMV's Dumdum studio/plant confirms that record number ASD 2295 DUETS (Vilayat khan and Bismillah Khan) is the first stereo recording done in India by Gramophone Company of India.
Hi Hiten,Bhaskarda,
can you please ask Mr. Choudhuri what equipments were used during those days. Like Mics, recording equips. Mastering Tapes machines etc.
All details would be highly appreciated.
Thanks and regards.
Very true. We never took care of our legacy seriously. As a result of which we are needed to re-invent the wheel afresh every occasion. Thanks Bhaskarda. We are not very good at keeping documentation and preserving things. A small incident* (Pardon if repeated in the forum) at the end of the main topic. Few months back I had collected lots of article available online about Technicians, Background musicians, Recording process, interviews of golden age of bollywood music and wanted it to post in the forum. Unfortunately I had to reinstall Chrome and lost all the bookmarks. Will try to gather again. Few year back I had a contact with a person whose friend was in bollywood in 60s, 70s. I enquired if any technical information or Recording technicians are known to him. He said most of them are either gone or living life in seclusion or have lost touch. And it would be tremendous task to contact and gather information.
Thanks for sharing dada.
* How good are British at preserving things ? We at Kalyan have more than a 100 years old Bridge built by british company Richardson and Cruddas. After 100 years My town's Municipality got letter from the company who built that bridge and warned that the life of bridge is over and necessary precaution should be taken.
Regards
Hiten,Thanks Bhaskarda. All the best for your efforts. Plaease do share updates.
EEI Cartridges I think were based on some Australian cartridge making company. Though they were made in india in those days. If I remember they even carried measurement charts from Indian Electronic Standards testing labs.
Regds.
In late 80s we had Pioneer turntable and its original cartridge was replaced by Classic 700. It came in nice packaging in square cube type box and silver foil printing if I remember.@bhaskarcan da and @Hiten very insightful information.
