Was checking the online site of Croma and I found Vu LED's that were are at really low price. For instance, the Vu 50K160 is only 62k and thats quite hard to believe.

Anyone owns a Vu LED? or has anyway checked it out at any stores? Does it have good picture quality? Is it a brand to trust?

Now I have a past experience where what Croma does at its retail stores is that it doesnt set the TV's with a low price range properly and so the picture quality doesnt look good. Croma does this so that people buy the TV's that are more expensive at the end of the day, because they SEEM to have better picture quality.
(when I checked out a Phillips and LG model during diwali at Vijay Sales, both looked good. But when I checked the same at Croma, the picture was quite pixellated)

Vu is a good brand in the US but given the almost zero service in India, I would stay away from them

Their service in Mumbai is excellent, within 24 hours most of the times. After I bought my first VU, 4 years ago, atleast 5-6 family and friends have also bought them and all are happy with the performance. Remember to buy the extended warranty Croma offers, it more than pays for itself incase something goes wrong. Infact I just bought a 55inch 3D LED from Croma a week back. Its wifi enabled and I got it for 1.02L. Samsung, sony or Lg were atleast 60% more expensive and without any significant improvement in picture quality.

Vu service may be poor today...but it may not be tomorrow or after a year..they may take time to establish themselves..which naturally a new comer takes..even other companies have taken time..I don't know why people don't buy Vu or toshiba or sharp..why only samsung..LG..Panasonic ..even hifi forum is filled with LG/Panasonic/Samsung TVs..why not any other tv given the fact that these companies are charging premium on their products..they have learnt how to mint money from the masses..in India we follow the masses..mai..mai..thats how it is.!

Vu brand is promoted by the daughter of the owner of Zenith computers, Saraf. They have their registered office in the US only for namesak and call themselves a US company. Google about the company and u will get a lot of information. As you are from Mumbai pls visit thr Palladium mall in lower parel and check out the tv sets at their exclusive showroom. No doubt the all their models are low cost but I did not like the picture quality compared to sets from Sony, Samsung etc. the features in their tv sets are awesome and comparable to other big brands. During Diwali I had visited their showroom at least 3 times before I finalised on the Samsung 55 inch tv. The picture quality in the Vu sets was not at all good as compared to other brands which were definitely more costly. I would suggest thoroughly comparing all the tv brands before putting your hard earned money in something which will be with you at least for the next 3-4 years. What is not good for me may be good for you and vice versa.

My thoughts precisely, except I look at it like even if I'm spending another 50k or 60k extra its still gonna last me 3-4 years only. I think a lot of us grew up in an era when electronics lasted forever...tv's used to last 10-12 years so I'm disappointed in today's time.

Re: Anyone ever checked out or experied a Vu LED?? Is it a brand that can be trusted?

Thanks for the replies guys. There seems to be an approximate 50/50 opinion about this brand. I do have a fixed budget, no a lac or something like most of you guys. Its max 70k only, for a BASIC (3D/SMART TV not required), yet, good picture quality Full HD 46/47/50 inch LED or Plasma if nothing. If I do get 3D and stuff with my budget, it will be like a plus point.
Zenith is a good company and if Vu comes under it then there are quite high chances of Vu LED's being good. However, it does seem to be risky.
Honestly Its my 1ST LED TV purchase experience, so I dont want to go wrong.

shailen82, your right. There should be threads on other brands and other brands should be given a chance, as every brand has started from scratch at some point of time or the other.

Zoo and Apoorvai, how is your Vu TV experience. Hows the picture quality? Any bugs? Something I should keep in mind when checking out the tv?
Since all channels are not HD, how is the SD channel picture?

Ill be heading to Phoenix Mills this week, so ill definitely check out the Vu Store.

Re: Anyone ever checked out or experied a Vu LED?? Is it a brand that can be trusted?

If this is ur first LED experience then I would suggest just have a look for comparison sake at the Sony models also. They have superb picture clarity and awesome color reproduction. Vu store is on the ground floor of phoenix mall and one the 1st floor is Croma. Even Sony has their showroom just outside the Vu store. Once you enter from the main enterence of the mall walk right across the huge hall. Don't climb the escalators, take a right turn to the out periphery of the mall, where the restaurants are located, then turn right, walk straight and turn left after the Samsung mobile store. Inside you'll see the Vu store on the left corner and before the store are the stairs leading to Croma.

Re: Anyone ever checked out or experied a Vu LED?? Is it a brand that can be trusted?

Personally i would stay away from Vu, still if you feel like going ahead, why not ultimately you should buy what you like and looks best to you. U can search the forum and see how many Vu users are there and get their inputs. I do not think you will get many reviews of their models on Google. So take a call depending on which set PQ you like best.

You have lot of options in 70K budget. Why to consider a brand without proper after sale service and support?

Many in this forum bought very good displays with much lesser budget.
Please go through all the recent TV buying threads.

Re: Anyone ever checked out or experied a Vu LED?? Is it a brand that can be trusted?

70K is a good budget, I am not recommending any particular brand, only after sales service and spares which matters the most. If after sales support is available for the brand of your choice which suits your requirement then you can go ahead.

Looking for your super fast response.

Please check if you have a service center in your area. As if there is no retailer keeping stock, i am sure you would not have any service center to repair the product too. Before buying call and check all local support options in your area.

Re: Anyone ever checked out or experied a Vu LED?? Is it a brand that can be trusted?

My cousin has a VU 46 inch 3d tv . Dont know the model name but it was the one with built in win 7 PC . After using it for 9 months there was a problem with excess back light bleed . It was tough to find its service center but he did . He was told VU has a replacement policy for displays and hence got his TV replaced ! Although he had to wait for more then a month for the replacement but he did actually get a new one . BTW i am from Navi Mumbai .If this is your first led then you wont notice any difference in the PQ with other bigger brands .

Re: Anyone ever checked out or experied a Vu LED?? Is it a brand that can be trusted?

Hi Guys,

Want to purchase 50" TV, confused on following models:

1) VU 50K160
2) Micromax 50B5000FHD
3) LG 50PB6600

While first two are LED, 3rd one is plasma. There is considerable cost difference among three, with Micromax being the cheapest around 35K, Vu 40K (with all discounts), LG 54 K.

Micromax does not offer extended warranty, whereas Vu offers 2 yrs @10% of cost price and LG do have extended warranty available (i belive)

What are experts opinion, I am not interested in smart features or 3D functionality, on sound front want to buy a home theatre system. Not very bright rooms at home however there is tube light above where I intend to place the TV.

Please share your views.

Hi jashamara, I have bought VU led tv 40 inch full hd with model number:VU40D6575 and it is working fine without any issues.

Since it is brand new purchase and i have bought 2 years extended warranty and got invoice for my extended warranty.

problems faced by me in this tv:

when i switch to usb mode by connecting pendrive, i will get the voice really low. So i will increase the volume beyond 80 (its volume is from 0 to 100), then i can hear clear voice.

At the same time whenever i have tried to switch it over from usb to tv mode, the volume didnt alter and all of a sudden loud noice will be heared from tv and immeditely i have to reduce the volume to below 20.

Another problem faced myself is whenever i am playing the movies, lipsyncing is not great.

Apart from the above mentioned issues, i didnt get any problems and considering the price it is value for money product.

But i need to check its durability.

Please note: Earlier i have used samsung LED full hd tv and after 1.5 years of usage suddenly my tv went bad and i have called up customer care.

The service engineer visited my home after three days of continuous follow-up and then he confirmed that motherboard gone faulty and it costs half of my tv original cost.

So once warranty is over, then they wont bother about our issues. So plan well.

My friend using micromax 40 inch led tv and it is working fine.

Every product will have pros and cons. You decide and buy.

If you go for micromax then opt for 50B6000FHD.

Re: Anyone ever checked out or experied a Vu LED?? Is it a brand that can be trusted?

I am now using VU UHD 55" 4k TV since past 7 months and am quite satisfied with its performance.

The TV does not have any back light bleed or clouding issues. Also the audio quality is quite good and you wont need a soundbar for sure.

I had called service technicans twice for pairing my laptop and mobile with my tv. Also once there was an issue with the remote where the problem was traced to the battey power. The service engineers come witin 24 hrs of lodging a complaint as per our availability.

I have 1+ 2 yrs of extended warranty on this tv.
