Yamaha's CX-A5000 & MX-A5000 separates are TOTL of their Aventage Series which had been discussed earlier on our forum but no one had seen of heard them, until now as your truly got the opportunity to do so last evening @ the den in worili.
The surprise was further enhanced by the above pairing with PMC HT package consisting of
IB1s LCR
Wafer 1 Surrounds
PMC SB100 Sub
Source was the Oppo103 Player
Saw part of the movie "open Range" for about 30 minutes
Open Range (2003) - IMDb
Rest of the time heard the set in 'Straight' mode for listening to music in stereo.
People just have to go & have an experience of this set-up. Maybe a mini-meet can be arranged (sunday only) as can request the owner of the den to accommodate us. Since the room is small, a maximum 6-7 persons can be part of each session.
Am not gonna write any review for it but just share some of my observations wrt 2 channel experience:
Synergy of the Yamaha with the PMC Monitors was sublime, yea who would have thought of trying out this combo, save a mad genius???
One can listen to music/watch movies on this combo for hours together, its that addictive.
ESS 24/192 DAC on the CX-A5000 is stunning! Really impressed by its capabilities.
Have heard the IB1s on several occasions with various stereo & multichannel amps/processors, but the Yamaha Combo simply made me sit up & take notice of the Ib1s as if I were hearing them for the first time.
A speaker which adds nothing of its own is possible only if its paired with a right amp that does exactly the same, is what is highlighted here.
In short, its a combo that will keep a music/audiophile happy for a long time as it does both duties equally well, which is a rarity in itself!!!
The Yamaha combo retails at 4.5L, can expect a 10% am told.
A 7.1 pkg of the PMC & Yamaha will cost 30L. Cost of the room acoustics would be additional.
