bad happened yesterday. A small kid (neighbour) threw a coffee tin on my V20 and its screen broke :-(
The panel is broken in two pieces from inside. The TV is not turning on and making a buzzing sound after the incident.
Called up Panasonic customer care, whose engineer said the company has refused to repair the TV (didn't cited any specific reason) but said their service center can replace the screen on a 'personal' level. Amount quoted is 45k. !!!
He says normal warranty will be honored after the repair.

Please advise, am going mad.

Thats real sad.

I suppose the best you can do is get a written assurance that the warranty will be valid and go for the 45k panel change. The cheapest new TV would cost around 65k.

very sad to know .........
Are the panel glass is so light / thin / .......... whatever it is ? Then what is the meaning of tough panel ?

I am thinking of exploring buying one at Bangalore ( or else where in S. India ) if it is available at 75K, and transporting it via train or volvo bus. If it is so fragile, it seems that I am taking a very high risk.

3 year old kid. neighbors are sorry. IMO nothing can be done on the neighbors front. Bad luck. Can someone apprise me about the price of the screen?

In a plasma or lcd the major component is the panel,so if that goes kaput, then be prepared to pay atleast 50% of the cost of the tv.

You can find lots of threads in avsforum about kids breaking the tvs from plasma to sony XBR series lcd. Most blame the kids parents for this.

Isn't there any chance of having it covered under warranty citing manufacturing defect given that the external glass is fine, but the panel inside has cracked.

On a completely different matter, the Dell Streak had similar issues where the internal LCD would break but not the external glass. Dell replaced many of them under warranty.

u r being large hearted :clapping:

being a father of a destructive 3-year old...i can empathize. i'd still say you should speak to your neighbour and tell him the cost of repairs and offer to share it 50%...if my girl had broken it, i'd have coughed up the whole enchilada...

u rockstar is really large hearted...i completely empathise with you as well deeply sympathise for ur unfortunate incident....the truth is that, with kids u cannot do anything or even like to put much blame, except if they r real mongerels...they r so innocent that u really tend to forgive afterall even if they r not ur kin, except blaming ur own luck & cussing at oneself for not being extra cautious in their company!

Sad that ur neighbours didnot seem to be so large hearted & voluntered to expedite or share ur repair bills!

Anyway,u r benevolently unique & that's the grand best fact!....hats off to you!Hope u get ur TV early repaired !!!

rockstar1630 :( this is painful. 45 K for a new screen is ouch. In my opinion get a new TV if the additional cost is affordable. I am in a similar situation where I need to shell out a relatively lower amount for a 42" pana plasma TV which has lost the display board to high voltage and costs 17 K.

Rockstar what are you still doing here? Go spank the neighbour's child! :) "Spare the rod.Spoil the child" ;)
