Bad happened: Panasonic 50V20D screen broken. Need help.

Hello all, thanks for all the suggestions. I live in a 100+ year old neighbourhood, all those 'raam raaj' types. This is a kind of neighborhood, where you play cricket, break all the glasses around, still get your ball back with a sorry. So spanking is out of question ;-) Anyways, committed to pay 45k to local service engineer. He would give in writing that standard warranty would be honored. Waiting for the replacement panel to arrive.

I can't understand why your neighbour is not willing to compensate for the damage or share a portion of the service charge. Pretty bad, I would say.

If its window pane you could probably let it go,but a 45k replacement i don't think so.Thats one low life neighbor.

Not everyone leads an apartment life where we dont know the name of our neighbour.. ;)

There are still people leading the good old life, considering the neighbours kid as their own and accept their mistakes..

Leave that guy alone.. :)

Hey thanks blasto. Exactly.. you nailed it. Good old life, is what it is.

Anyways,
Following is the summary so far:
- Complained to Pana Customer care. They sent across an engineer in Meerut. Said panel is unavailable as it is out of production.
- Demanded Rs 45k and said will replace with a 'new' panel from a Pana service center in Noida.
- I took an undertaking that it would be a new panel with 0 hours and paid Rs 10k as advance.
- Guy on a run since then with my money. Spoken to his seniors, he is expected to be nabbed today.

- Took the broken TV to my Gurgaon home. Again called pana customer care. They sent across an engineer. After 3 days reverts, that officially they will charge Rs 60k+ taxes for the panel replacement. Then the service center guy says, Saar, dont go in for repairs, I ll give you a new box packed, 0 hours 50V20D for Rs 55k against a replacement of this dead piece.
- I asked him to give it in writing that it will be box paid with 0 hours, also asked him that if I can get a VT20 instead as it commands the same price.
- He called yesterday and said that box packing has been accidentally damaged and the piece is brand new but with 0 hours and in open condition. I asked him about VT20 to which he said, this model doesn't exist on earth. There is only ST30 and since it is a new model, no replacement can be offered. My all efforts to enlighten him about VT20 went in vain. Finally I hung up.

Seriously I don't understand what is wrong with Panasonic India. Has the whole company become corrupt. What would be happening to other chaps facing similar issues of broken panel?

Can someone show me the right path? Need some light. :-)

Panel cost of 45k or 55k(replacement) seems to be too high for this discontinued model. Better bet is sell it if possible for 15k and buy 50VT20 for around 74K. If u discount the price of 3D glasses then the actual price of VT20 will be 66K. So for another 51K you can get VT20 with infinite black pro filter.

wait a little bit more and buy a vt20. your target price should be 65k for a box packed piece.

alternative: hunt a demo v20 piece from delhi/ncr and get the replacement done.

update: Meerut guy who took 10000 Rs is on a run. Lodged a complaint with police. Expect to get the money in next 5-7 days.
Gurgaon pana service center quoted 55 k for a open v20 against replacement. Quoted 65k for panel replacement.
I contacted Dawars open world in Gurgaon where this set was purchased from. He said he ll speak with the service center guys.
Yesterday I got a call from the service center and he quoted 45k for a 50V20 against replacement. (Used panel).

Don't know what is going on at Panasonic India. Seems to be indulging in fraudulent activities.

It looks more like the service center guys trying to make some money without the parent company knowing it. I'll bet you that any open Tv will be a display model, available since no one wants it.

Suggestion : Become a little spritual, let go of these expensive sets and all the stress related to them, settle for something around 30K and enjoy stress free viewing :D

Get a brand new V20 or BETTER take a VT20 for 71k with 1x 3D glass. I also got info yesterday that additional glass can be available for additional 2k only! Sell your TV on scrap for 15k to the Panasonic Service center.

Usually these service centers are operated by vendors who get huge discounts from the principle vendor (Panasonic here) and hence you are getting those prices for the TV. Unfortunately VT20 stocks are sold to Croma and hence Panasonic can't help arranging the same.

From where I can get a VT 20 in delhi NCR at 71k?
You could participate on the thread below and contact Joy Karla to arrange the group buy. You could go independently at Croma, Janakpuri or anyone at your vicinity and try to bring the price down further or ask for additional glasses or freebies. Once negotiated, please share the info and we could have another round of group buy at Delhi through the below thread:

Ok. Update Time:

Fraud Alert:

The service center people asked 65k+ taxes for repairing the broken screen. I purchased 50VT20D at 71k with 1 glass 7 months back. Complained about 50v20d isssue to higher panasonic brass. As expected, everyone is corrupt.
A senior official offered 20k as buyback for the broken set. I accepted the offer and got rid of it. Never in my life am going to buy panasonic again.

I have a couple of Panasonic's and even convinced a couple of friends to buy it because the picture quality was so much better than others like Samsung, LG, etc. But everyone including myself have faced bad customer service from Panasonic.

I had an IC burn out and had to wait 4 weeks to get it repaired. Similar issue with friend's and there too it took 4-5 weeks. Another friend's set began to overheat and nobody has fixed it and they don't even take the set and give a replacement citing model out of stock.

Now I'm pretty sure I will not be getting another Panasonic nor recommending it to anyone.

I have almost made up my mind to buy a 50" Panasonic Plasma but getting jittery after reading your views... Samsung/LG are supposed to have better customer service but Pana Plasma is supposed to be the best. Samsung doesnt offer extended warranty so it is not in consideration anymore...

I am going to buy & use this in a tier-2 city where we have influence (read Police) and services should be better from anyone...does that change the equation?

Also I have read about Plasmas being somewhat dull for SD viewing & even 2 lights in a room can make the difference... what do you guys suggest?

slowly we have to apt the US culture instead of getting repaired they will keep it near dustbin,so frustrating and helpless situation when you spend so much get nothing but depression, whereas for small things most of us bargain. After reading the forum i am also hesitant to go for newTV even-though my CRT is doing good.

I will seriously not buy Panasonic again... unless I'm considering it money down the drain and don't hold expectations from it.

If your TV works without a problem then its the best... God forbid it develops a problem. Then the real headache will start.

Perhaps you can show the Panasonic guys this thread... but I'm sure it will not make a difference to them... will only illustrate to you the quality of their service (or lack of it).

One of my friends spent 85K on a plasma with 3D and he has all but pulled out all his hair with frustration.

At the end of the day its not all about the best PQ & SQ (never mind its an audiophile forum and we want the best)... in truth its all about peace of mind. After spending lacs if you don't have peace of mind you will surely think its not worth it.

Police won't help. As higher ups in panasonic are corrupt as well. Musicbee rightly said, there is no peace of mind.

Imagine paying 65k+ taxes for screen replacement for a TV which costed about 70k! and then selling it off as a garbage in 20k.

This is horrible that companies are taking consumers for a ride... so what are the alternatives - go for LG/Samsung/Sony ??
