Best bang for the buck for Home theater speakers

If you are ok for discounted prices, check out for Acoustic energy at Barton center.

I still insist that you need to go for paradigm monitor6 series or monitor7 and save money on onkyo.

The only reason being I have similar setup. Or if you really decided then for golden ear triton and leave out subwoofer

Before auditioning ensure speakers are calibrated at 75 db level from listening position

Ps the synergy between denon and paradigm is very good

Hey Venk,

Thanks a lot for the inputs. Paradigm Monitor 7 is definitely in my audition list. I was planning to use the existing Denon in my living room with my existing Kefs and get a new 3D pass through amp for HT room. That's why I thought of getting a new Onkyo. I thought of trying Onkyo as its certified to work with 4ohm rated speakers. Because the THX speakers are 4ohm rated.

BTW, where do you think I can get a good demo of Paradigm Monitor 7 in Bangalore?

-John.

These are the people atleast I am aware who deal with Paradigm. You should aim for studios in front and center, if budget doesnt work out, then you can come back to Monitor series

  • HTStore.in
  • Uniquesys.in
  • Rontek(Jacaob)
  • Paradigm distributor office is in Bhanshankri

Neverthless Paradigm centers are built like tank. None of these dealers stock studio series nor they are listed as official dealers.
I bought mine from Lokesh(HT store) and he deals with Velyodyne as well.
Nice guy to deal with.

I want the perfect tonal match between my front speakers. I never seen a front speakers to tonally match if they are different, even if they are from the same company.

Since I am not going to use this setup for music, I don't need a full range/band floor stander for fronts.

If you look at THX spec speakers, they use the same speakers for Left/Right and Center.

-John.
John,

Agree with what you want. I have the same setup, where all the LCR's are same.

But choosing a center speaker for left/right may not be the right decision. Any speaker manufacturer starts their design with left/right speakers, then they design the center speaker to match the left and right. Their full focus of design and optimization is on the left/right speaker. While the center, being horizontal layout, poses the challenges. It is designed to sound as close to with left/right. Some designs succeed, some don't. But since center does not play mostly vocals in a HT setup, it is obscured. Placing these center speakers in horizontal situation for left / right will cause lots of lobing issues in your room.

If you have to get all three speakers same, I suggest find the speakers which have tweeter almost near the top. Then use those as LCR. What matters is that tweeter (or tweeter and mid range) should be pointed directly at listener. If tweeter is near top, you can get by using a normal speaker as center and will not cause your image to shift.

You have got the correct view on the matter John. Having floorstanders and bookshelves and centers all being different models from each other and different sizes and woofer configurations dilute the experience. The fronts should indeed all be the same for a linear transition between the three. It only makes sense to have floorstanders as left and right if the listener ever intends to use it for stereo, but since you're not, stick with 1 model across three.

On that note I would go for the d600/d6/d7 series as they are thx and jamo researched their design for nearly 10 years for home theater use.

It's a shame you're not getting D7, have you tried searching in used marketareas? The D7 was the true masterpiece out of their entire thx line, the d600 is a watered down variation but I guess should be similar.

Sotry to bring this old thread to life, but this intrigues me. I'm contemplating upgrading my d6 system to either the d7 or the d600 system. Why would the d600 be a watered down version of the d7?
