Best Water Purifier

abundant?
Weren't you present during the water rationing last year? Luckily it rained, otherwise.....

Anyways, how is Pureit (with the 1 crore safety challenge still on)
Well, yes. Last year was different and there were water cuts. But then last year was also a draught year all over India.

When compared to most of rest of India, water supply in Pune is abundant.

No idea about Pureit.

I use kent RO and it has uv as well as ro. Lot of water gets wasted but I have put a huge bucket under the sink and the rejected water from RO is used for washing clothes, cleaning floor or watering the grass in the lawn.

Hai anm,

How much water is wasted to get a litre of RO water?

Hi
I am planning to buy a Water purifier for my new house.
I searched the web and found in india 3 brands are famous

1. Eureka forbes
2. Kent
3. Philips

Am Looking for Online Tap model

Any one have experience in the water purifier can help me to buy.

My Budget around 5000 to 8000 rupees.

Reviva from Eureka forbes is one of the best water purifiers I have seen. It even converts hard water into drinking water. I have been using this in home for more than 5 years to purify bore well water with lot of sediments in it as we do not have any other source.

The maintenance will be little high as we need to clean/replace the filters often. Again it depends on how bad your source water is. Also the service is not up to the mark at my area. Hope it will be better in major cities.

I think the current price is around 12K. Performance wise it worth the extra bucks.

Apologies for in-convenience if any, caused by revival of this old thread. I am planning to buy a water purifier and into a similar or somewhat bigger dilemma.
Based on some online research below are my findings:
There are two major techniques of water purification:
Passing the water through ultraviolet lamps: Eureka Forbes is master of this and they produced some excellent purifier units based on this tech. Downside being, old technology and the unit may still pass some unpurified water based on the maintenance condition of the unit.

Subjecting the water to Reverse Osmosis (RO) system: The most efficient technology as of now that kills almost all germs. Downside: It also takes away some of the necessary minerals present in water.
In my area water TDS level is very high and is pretty hard. So, RO purifier is the way to go.
After researching through some of the leading brands like Eureka Forbes, Kent, Pure-it, I zeroed on Kent. The reason for leaving out Eureka Forbes is that its RO tech is still evolving whereas Kent is supposed to have mastered the art of making RO units. Also, Kent has a particular model (I dont remember name) which has both RO and Ultraviolet tech. So you have the flexibility of adjusting the setting to get required level of minerals in your output water.
Now the dilemma part.when I was all set to buy the Kent purifier, my mom in law called and recommended an RO purifier from RCM (Right Concept Marketing). A brand never heard of :( While she is completely satisfied with its performance at a place where even the tap water is drinkable, I am doubtful about its performance with Bangalore water. Cost wise its in similar range of Kent. Have anybody tried this RCM water purifier in Bangalore, Hyderabad??

I guess this Post is already close, If not i would like the people over here to suggest me a best purifier. Cost is around 15K. I am placed in Chennai.

A small clarification:

There is a difference between RO & Membrane filters. Basically to do with the design & structure of the filtration element.

If you are basically using Municipal Water that is sourced from a surface dam and subjected to treatement then Membrane type is more than adequate.

If the water source is from a borewell or there is contamination of Sewerage or heavy metals then RO is the better option.

Membrane type has very little wastage. We have been using it in Pune for the last 7 years as the basic water quality is good. Replaced the filter element last year. No problems so far.

RO + UV is sort of ultimate.
But beware of most So called RO units in the market. Most of them bypass a lot of water around the RO candle to adjust the TDS values. Kent units ( nothwithstanding Hema Malini's endorsement) is a prime example of this. Check the water flow circuits & you will see what I mean.
Get the water tested, if you have a doubt, before finalising the type.

The big names does not count. I've been using RO water for the past 8+ years. I've never gone for the branded ones though they look sleek. I've gone for the local brands and make sure that it is regularly serviced. The big brands use the same technology only we pay more for their brand name and maybe for the service but I think the local brands give me more good service or better than these big brands. Any brands the filter and taste elements, carbon etc needs to be changed once a year or depending upon the water quality it may need to be changed even in 6 months. However, the prefilter needs to be changed every 3 months to protect the other filtering equipment's inside. The model I've been using is known as Dolphin model which is simple and effective RO system and should cost around 7K to 8K. A good company would test the water in your home and would tell you if it would be possible to use the RO system and its effectiveness in your place. I've tasted the Kent RO+UV filtered water in my friend's place and I would never want to taste that water again. It was tasteless and not sure if all the minerals in the water was taken away due to the UV effect.

Chennai currently has only bore/well water. I think municipal water is very unreliable.

So go in for a pure RO unit with an inline UV filtration stage. Ensure that there is no bypassing of the RO stage in the circuit. Go for some brand with local support as a lot of maintainence of the incoming filters & carbon will need to be done. Also get your water tested before finalising the filter. You may also need to put an inline water softner.

You will loose a lot of minerals, that are normally available in surface water, so take suitable vitamin+minerals supplements on a regular basis.

The water will taste bland and u will have to live with it.

Avoid Kent. Worst service in Bangalore and I think whole of South India.
By the way, RO bypass topicIs but misleading. It's done to ensure you get proper amount of minerals in the filtered water. Since RO removes everything from water passed through it, including minerals. Certain amount of water is passed through UV, bypassing RO. UV de-activates any germs/bacteria present in such bypassed water and restores mineral level.

Hi,
There are different types of water filtration systems from on-the-tap faucet filtration systems dispensers and pitchers using carbon filters, to those using reverse osmosis technique.

My friend uses Aqua guard for last 10 years. he spends around 4000 Rupees per year for its maintenance. Which RO purifier requires less maintenance? In our house water is little bit hard.
